Re: for all you cooks....
my mom put a shallow rack on the inside of the pantry door so she could see all her spices lined up so she knows what she has... before that they were all in the cabinet and you would have to search through them all to find something... now she just has to open the door and look to see if it is there or not... does that make sense?

Re: for all you cooks....
I just know what I have.
For my shower my mom bought me a TON of spices. I've had to pick up a few extra ones here and there. Of course some need to be replaced often and some aren't used nearly as much as others are. But I have a very good idea about what's going on in that closet!
I do want to get some kind of shelving. I just haven't yet.

I don't know how, but for the most part I rremember what I have. If I am not sure if I have what a recipe calls for, then I look before I go shopping.

If you have a spice rack it is probabaly easier. You can easily check before you go. Or if you find yourself buying spcies on the spur of the moment, why not keep a list in your purse, or your PDA, if you have one.

Re: for all you cooks....
I don't, but I have a general idea of what I have. I am a good cook, but follow recipes, I am not so good at the 'throwing things together' kind of cooking (although I wish I was...) So I generally check recipes before shopping for the week and then make sure I have the spices when I make the grocery list.
