Caiden is a little over 5 weeks old. What does everyone do with their babies during the day/night? Well, I won't have the days with him anymore come Monday. I feel like I should be doing more? I was just wondering what everyone else does that I'm not doing, and should be doing with him? Thanks!

Just hold him as much as you can! You will miss this time sooner than you think! When Lyla was 5 weeks old, I guess she slept during the day a lot. I don't even remember now! I wasn't going out in the car with her as much then. It took a while to get used to finding something to do with her, especially if all she wants to do is eat and sleep. It will change soon though, and you will spend lots of time playing with him. I go out everyday with her. I have to get out of the house and she loves to be out.

Melissa I think the SAME thing. Sophie is 7 weeks now and sometimes I think she's BORED!!! My sister, mommy of 4, promises she's too young to be bored! She sleeps a whole lot still, and I am guessing that is normal. Our routine is that we eat, and then have activity time. Sometimes that means just getting changed, looking at the mobile, listening to song, shaking a rattle, looking at something in primary colors, etc. Sometimes we walk around the house and take a tour. That kind of thing. Sometimes it's a bath, etc. Then I try to nurse her a tiny bit to get her drowsy, she goes to sleep, and the whole thing starts over.
Sometimes she wakes up , eats and goes right back to sleep before I can entertain her! I think they are just too young yet to expect anything of them! My mom said that I'll know when it's time to do more. She said that Sophia will start cooing a lot more, and reaching for things, and the actitivy time will just naturally extend itself and she'll start to be entertained by things other than my face!

Re: For all you mommies...
I used to take Julianne for long walks when I was home on Mat leave... Jan-mar last year...YES out in the snow.. I just bundled her up as best as I could and walked her. She loved it,...the fresh air was good for her and the walking good for me. ALso became very adept at talking on my cell while pushing a carriage! got to catch up with family/friends.
I would also put on a baby einstein tape during the day...the classical music and the colors would engage her for a little bit.

Re: For all you mommies...
Phyl, I give you so much credit taking her out in the winter...that's one of my biggest insecurities! Ryan and I went for walks every single day in the summer and early fall, but now, I am soo paranoid about him being warm enough that I am scared to take him for walks...I know the fresh air would do him good, but running to and from the car as we do errands is about the most I feel comfortable with - this is one of the things that makes me feel like a terrible Mom!
Melissa, when Ryan was that little, we did pretty much what Jenny does and I'm sure what you are doing - not very much! He slept alot, we ate, got dressed, walked around the house, went for a walk in the carriage, he LOVED sitting in his bouncy seat, he sat in the swing, I tried to read him books but he could care less, did tummy time until he screamed, etc. etc.
But you know what, you should really just hold him, kiss him, and enjoy this snuggly time whenever you can because believe me, before you know it, he'll be like Ryan - more interested in banging and standing and crawling and really not interested in snuggle time with his Mommy - and I miss that so much!! Enjoy every moment you have with him and remember - it's quality not quantity that will count in the end!!

I felt the same way! I was worried that I wasn't DOING anything with her, and that maybe I wasn't stimulating her enough. And, that's just silly. At that age, all they really need is to eat, sleep, and to be held. And, you're obviously doing that!
But, if you are really worried that you aren't doing enough with her, there are GREAT books out there which give you games to play with your infant, from birth up. They divide the games into age appropriate categories. They are simple games, but ones you wouldn't necessarily think of. And they work! So, take a look at a few of them.

I agree hold him alot & cherish him. Patrick was exactly 7 weeks on Sept 11, 2001. It made me realize how lucky I was!! They do not get bored. You can do silly stuff to try to get him to laugh. Other than that they aren't asking for much at that age.
