For anyone who has lost a loved one

For anyone who has lost a loved one

Are you going to do anything at the ceremony or reception to remember them by? I've seen people put up a picture of them or a candle or something. My mother has passed away and I was wondering if I should do something to remember her by or not...any suggestions?

this is 100% what you want to do.

I have heard of some people leaving an empty chair at a table for the deceased. I personally think that's VERY rough....

A lot of people have a memorial table with candles and maybe a frame or two..

It's entirely up to what you want to do and what you are comfortable with.

there are many posts on here about that. have you searched?

i'm sorry about your mother. my father passed away and there are many different things i am thinking about doing. i will definitely have a memorial candle during the ceremony that will burn all night by my table. i also plan on having a pic of him and me. some people put a poem or saying up in a frame or even in a program. i am also thinking of having roses in a vase to symbolize everyone that isnt' there with us that day.

some have also said they are going to have a dance in honor of that person or even a slide show, if you are having video screens. HTH!

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's passing. Yes, I'd definitely do something special to honor the memory of your mom at your wedding.

Sorry for the long answer, but e have several family members and friends who have died over the years and I want to do something to remember them on our day. I'm going to put a line in the programs about honoring those who couldn't be with us, and my favorite poem, 'Remember' by Christina Rossetti. My sister did this and it came out beautifully.

For FH's grandmother (whom I never got the pleasure to meet), I'd like to have an empty chair with lilacs tied with ribbon (which was her favorite). I'd like to also have a rose for my best friend's mom, who recently passed away in June from breast cancer. Our families have been close since I was 5 years old, and she was like a 2nd mom to me. We always joked that if I couldn't find my perfect wedding dress, she'd make it for me, since she was an outstanding seamstress.

Also, at the reception, I'd like to have a table with candles, rose petals, and photo frames of those who are no longer with us. I'm a childhood cancer survivor, and I don't want to make such a happy day sad, but when I was 15 yrs old that I didn't think I'd live to see my Sweet 16th birthday, let alone my wedding day! So everyone who knows me knows it's important to me to honor lost loved ones like this. And if one of my friends who also had cancer was still alive, she'd have been in my bridal party. She died from rhabdomyosarcoma when we were both 17, and I can't imagine not remembering her in some way on my wedding day. My dad had even suggested having a small bouquet made in honor of her, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I am having something at the church for them and then I am having a table for them at the reception with their pictures and individual candles for each one.

My mom passed away as well and we are doing a candle ceremony during the ceremony and instead of favors we are donating to the susan g. komen breast cancer foundation in her name. I think its nice to either mention or have a picture of the person. We know they are all watching down on us that day, but its nice to acknowledge them as well.

My mom passed away too...2 years ago on Easter Sunday actually.

Plain and simple...planning my wedding without her S UCKS!!!!! We were VERY close.

So...I am doing a memory candle for her at the church and then bringing it to the reception. I am also ordering the small frame to attach to my Bok from JeanM.com and reserving the back cover of my programs for my mom as well..I personally believe the only time to make mention or acknowledge someone's memory is at the church or ceremony ONLY.

The reception is a time for celebration and discussing someones memory can change the mood of a party.

Just as Jess said...it is entirly up to you.

I'm so sorry for your loss...hang in there...do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

i have also heard about the chair idea but unfortuantly i have had manyy imp. people pass and there would be several empty chairs.. Personallly I do not like that idea.

My FH mom is going to be the harderst person not to have there. She passed 5 months ago and had no idea she was even sick. She booked my hall with me, saw me in my dress, and looks forward to being there. I am marrying her only child. Upon her passing I decided to do a lot for her that noone will even understand but me.

I have my BM in teh color dress she planned on wearing.

My bouquet is her favorite flower and color.

We are also putting up pics of her on our photo montage in the beginning of the reception.

My mom is lighting a candle in memory of her at the ceremony.

I hope some of these ideas are useful to everyone.

my grandma who raised me with my mom passed away almost a year ago and I am trying to incorporate her memory into a lot of things for our wedding.

I have pressed flowers from her garden that i used to put on a memory candle for her,

she loved cardinals so in our card cage i have a cardinal to put on the perch

a few other things as well.

hope that helps
