For future use....Probably need to bookmark for when invites roll around!!

Original post by Kris10546

I just read this in an old issue of InStyle Weddings I had lying around and I noticed on the 07 boards someone asked about addressing so I typed it up for her. I figured I would share the info!

Yes that is correct...I just read that in a bridal magazine a few minutes ago...InStyle Weddings Winter 2007

Married Couple with the same last name
Example:
Mr. and Mrs. William Harbin
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The husbands full name (no nicknames), preceded by 'Mr and Mrs'
Inner: Dont use first names; in this case, it would read 'Mr. and Mrs. Harbin'

Married couple with children under 18 living at home
Example:
Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Burleston
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: Childrens names are left off the outer envelope
Inner: 'Mr. and Mrs. Burleston' on the first line; childrens first names on a line below.

Married Couple in which the woman has kept her maiden name
Example:
Ms Olivia Olsen
and Mr. Ethan Hayes
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The wifes name appears first, on its own line; 'and' indicates marital status
Inner Place 'ms> Olsen' on the top line; 'and Mr. Hayes' is written below.

Married couple in which the woman is a doctor
Example:
Doctor Julie Walker
and Mr. Jonatoan Burns
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The womands name is written above her husbands. 'Doctor' is spelled out.
Innter: 'Doctor Walker' is written on the first like; 'and Mr. Burns' appears below.

Unmarried Couple living together
Example:
Miss Christine Stein
Mr. Joshua Richmond
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The guests names (ladies first) are written on two lines, without 'and'
Inner Write 'Miss Stein' on the first line, with 'Mr. Richmond' below

Single person with a date
Example:
Mr. Matthew Paris
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: Address this envelope to only the guest you know personally
Inner: The words 'and guest' are added after 'Mr. Paris.'

Extra Tips:
Never use first names on the inner envelope, except for childrens.
Spell out state names, plus words and terms such as 'street' 'road' 'Avenue' 'Apartment' etc.
Whenever a woman's name appears independently - no matter the reason - it always goes on the first line.
Include titles such as 'doctor' or 'judge' only if guests use them both socially and professionally.

thats great.

2 issue though...

(1) isn't Miss for single females until 18?? I'm guessing if a couple is living together already they are over 18 and it would be Ms. then.

(2) even if a married woman keeps her maiden name , i think its supposed to be Mrs.
