for girls who have been on a cruise...

is there a big differene between a balcony room and a suite?

Re: for girls who have been on a cruise...

I've only been inside (no window) before because i love to travel cheaply LOL, but the suite will give you a much bigger room than a regular balcony room. For our honeymoon, our balcony room is only 175 sf, where i think the suite is much bigger, more like a regular hotel room, and the balcony itself is bigger. Ours is only like 5x5 LOL!

BTW, depending on what cruise line you're looking at, you can go on their web site and do virtual tours and get exact specs of the rooms.

For example, i just looked our exact specs up. The Deluxe Ocean View (Balcony) is:
Stateroom: 170 sq. ft.
Veranda: 38 sq. ft.

A suite would be anywhere from:
Stateroom: 251 sq. ft.
Veranda: 57 sq. ft.
to
Stateroom: 1,432 sq. ft.
Veranda: 1,098 sq. ft.

what cruise line are you looking at?

we always travel in inside cabins cuz we are neverrr in our rooms. ive been in a balcony room..same size as an inside..just with a balcony.. itsnice to have wine and stuff..but u dont wanna miss al the action on this boat..so u should stay out of the room as much as possible.

ive been in a suit like 28302 yrs ago.. its NICE. worth the money? def not.

sorry to be blunt lol but.... wheather ur guna be in an inside or a suite.. ull still make sexy time on a bed.....so what diff does it make? :-x

its just a bigger room, more like a hotel room. the rooms on a cruise tend to be really small. I have done both inside and balcony and while it doesnt matter much to me when im sharing a room with my sisters, for my Honeymoon i would rather have a balcony only b/c you will prolly spend a little more alone time in the room than a regular vaca. you may want to enjoy the view while your alone too ;)

We stayed in, like, a mini suite once. It was a little bigger, had an actual tub (whereas the balcony stateroom just had the shower) and it had more space (I didn't think it was that much more to make it worth it) and a small sitting area.

When FH and I cruised in Europe this summer, we stayed in an inside room. We'll never do it again.

Sure, it was nice enough....but when we visited friends with a balcony room- there was no comparison. I love to wake up early and watch the sun rise, how nice to do that with a pot of fresh coffee on your own balcony?

The only thing- I would recommend going as high up as you can, tell them it's your honeymoon. If you're on the top level, no one is peering down onto your balcony.

OOPS! reread your question- what a dope! You asked about balcony room vs. suite. I don't think the suite is worth the price. You'll be happy in a balcony room.

I totally agree. Whenever we cruise, FH and I get an inside room and his parents will get a balcony room. The rooms are the same size, they just have a small balcony, big enough for 2 people to sit. Never seen a suite room before, but like grkbarbie said, you really don't want to spend a lot of time in the room since there is SO much to do outside of the room! BUT that being said, if its your honeymoon, I would pull out all the luxuries, if I could afford it!

Re: for girls who have been on a cruise...

my parents got a suite once and said it was just bigger... check with the cruiseline though for the dimensions.... depending on what ship, it may not be that much of a difference, but the price will be

we didnt even get a balcony for our short HM cruise... it was a huge price diff between that and an oceanview... so i settled and just got a superior oceanview room (a little more space to move around) .... another thing is that if its THAT much more $, and like me, am cruising during hurricane season, if you hit into one, you wont be using that balcony- whether big or small... .... another thing is... would you rather save the extra $ and use it for awesome excursions or on a room that you wont be in for much of the trip?

Balcony rooms are larger than most interior rooms (though there are interior rooms on the Royal Caribbean ships that look out onto the promenade and those rooms are as big as balcony rooms). Besides a few extra feet space (and I mean a few), balcony rooms do not usually offer any additional amenities over regular rooms (whether oceanview or interior).

Suits, however, are larger than even the balcony room and, most importantly, often come with extra perks like butler service or preferred time for spa treatments but it all depends with what company you are sailing. Generally, you will be pampered more by sailing in a suit because of the extra room in your cabin (especially if you are sailing with Royal since their cabins are some of the smallest out there).

Suits do commend a premium in price and it is often a big premium so unless you must have all that extra space, going with a balcony room will be just fine since it provides everything that a suit does (i.e. some extra space + a balcony) but for much less.

Alright- I think a suite is useless. When I went to Alaska, we stayed in the Penthouse suite which was the second largest on the boat. It was AWESOME- had flatscreens, living rooms, luxurious showers, dining rooms- stuff like that. We also had a maid and butler service and hor d'eorves sent to us daily like caviar, wine, and crackers. Is it worth it- def not. You won't spend enough time in there to get your moneys worth. I personally think that all you need is an upgraded veranda and you're set. For our European honeymoon, we got an upgraded veranda which is a nice size room with a big balcony. We also get primary boarding and embarking. And we also get the hor d'eorves and wine and special robes and stuff like that. So, we have everything the suite has with the exception of the crazy rooms and paid HALF the price.

I agree with the higher decks- it's SO important!!!!!!!

Honestly, FH and I had the BEST time on our 'Let's celebrate our Engagement' cruise to Cozumel and Grand Cayman and we had an interior room. I think I'd do it again, too, even if it was our honeymoon, only because like girl have said abvoe, you're barely in there, and I honestly LOVED how dark (literally pitch black) it was when the lights were off. We never slept so well!

On Celebrity you can get the upgraded services in a Veranda room, called Concierge Class, and the room is a few feet bigger too. All of the reviews i've read said it isn't worth it, though!

That's what I got- the concierge class- It was worth it for us because the travel agent who's a family friend of my in laws included it and gave us 300 off PER person.

That's cool! We got the discount, but not the upgrade LOL! We actually just saved a ton of money (over $2500) by rebooking everything separately. Instead of choosing a specific room, we're now in a 'Guaranteed Veranda'. It was hard enough to convince me to spend so much extra money to not get an inside room...i'll take the veranda room wherever they put us!

Re: for girls who have been on a cruise...

I went on a cruise and I paid for a balcony room.. but they bumped us up to a suite - we had an option to get a discount to pay for at least a balcony room with the possibility of being bumped up to a suite or you could have booked a room and know the exact room number and have that room with not possibility of being bumped up and pay more... that really wasn't a hard decision for us!
Really the suite is just a little bit bigger. They both have private balconies. The suite had this little area for getting dressed with a vanity and bigger closits and stuff. All in all it's the same but a little larger with more space for storage. There was also a little couch and coffee table in the suite. If you look at the layout of the boat it will show you the rooms... You should check out the book or the website to the cruise line and ship you are booking and you should be able to see the size variation. Anyway you do it.. it's a cruise and the rooms are a bit small... even the suite was small in comparison to a regular hotel room suite. So for me, either room is fine.
