I heard that eventually it will all be one place. Lord & Taylor will have home goods, jewelery etc like fortunoff and that they also want to open up a bridal section like Macys, for wedding gowns, bridesmaid etc

its not the first time fortunoff filed for bankruptcy, and all those other times it still stayed the same. When you file for chapter 11 you dont have to close. Its a way to get your finances in order but have the creditors off your back

Yeah I have been hearing rumers for a while, but was not sure. It looks like it shouldn't really effect anything in the store for a bit, but that things may get a little more expensive soon. Which S**ks!

It doesn't look like it's going to safely file for bankrupcy this time though. it looks as though it's being bought out. In early March...so who knows what that will do. Tough decision.

exactly. this shouldn't affect anyone who is registered; they have pulled out of chapter 11 before.

Fortunoff, a shopping institution on Long Island for decades, said Monday it has filed for bankruptcy protection and agreed to be acquired for $100 million by the owners of Lord & Taylor, the second change in ownership for the Westbury-based home furnishing and jewelry chain in the past two years.
Retail industry sources said last week that Fortunoff, struggling for the past few years, was in talks to be acquired from the two investment firms that held a majority stake -- Trimaran Capital Partners and Kier Group of Manhattan, and the Fortunoff and Mayrock families, who hold a 25 percent ownership stake.
In an announcement early Monday morning, Fortunoff said it has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and that it will be acquired by NRDC Equity Partners, the owner of the venerable Lord & Taylor department store.

It's not going to change anything regarding our registries. All stores will remain open and carry the same things. They are being loaned $$ to keep purchasing while their finances are sorted out. L&T wants to buy them, but really any retailer can. Our registries will be fine.

its not the first time though fortunoff had different ownership bc of them filing for bankruptcy.
Remember with levitz a few months ago, with that they announced right away that they are going OUT OF BUSINESS...they havent mentioned that once yet, and it says they filed for 'BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION'

They aren't closing. It's for their protection to get their creditors off their backs. Donald Trump has done it plenty of times before.

ALot of business do it exactly lol, its just not always advertised. Even ppl do it, its the same concept why a person would file, they do it to have creditors get off their back

For right now, things won't change. However, in the long term they will. Fortunoff has never before entered bankruptcy. Previously the business was sold to a private equtiy firm. We will all have to wait and see what happens. I registered at Fortunoff's Hewlett (which is a totally different store with the same stuff) so I'm not worried.!!! Highly Reccommended! Good Luck!
