For girls with Thyroid Issues

For girls with Thyroid Issues

A few weeks ago there was a discussion on underactve thyroids and pregnancy risks.

I just had a follow up appt. with my doctor.
I asked him if taking Synthroid/Levoxyl has any bad effects on childbearing/pregnancy.

According to him, the drug doesn't go through placenta easily, and the most common mistake that pregnant women make is stopping to take the drug. This basically increases your chances of miscarrying. He has actually mentioned that during pregnancy he makes sure to monitor thyroid and drug intake in each trimester to make sure things are ok.

So, no there is no reason not to take Synthroid, just dont stop taking it when you're pregnant or trying to become one.

Thanks Alina!!! When I was first diagnosed with Hypothyroid, I asked my doctor right away about how it will affect pregnancy in my future. She told me no matter what you NEVER stop taking the medication. She also told me that a friend of hers (not knowing she was hypothyroid) miscarried about 2-3 times until she was put on Synthroid. She has two healthy babies now. So with that and now your story, I feel much much better!

Thank you!

You know what's strange? My sister was diagnosed with underactive thyroid, an was put on synthroid. She stopped taking it about 6 months ago (I know, a big no-no!) but she went recently for a blood test and now her thyroid is fine!
