? for iPOD owners

FH is interested in one of these, and since I know nothing about them and haven't gone to the stores yet to ask the salespeople questions I figured I would ask the iPOD owners on this website first.

Here goes:

Which iPOD do you have? What is the memory size?

What do iPODs come with (i.e, headphones, etc.)?

Do I have to buy any addtl necessities that the iPOD does not come with?

Should I get an addtl warranty on it?

Where should I purchase it from?

Any other helpful pieces of info that I should know?

Thanks!

Which iPOD do you have? What is the memory size? I have an older one, a regular size iPod which has a 20 gigabyte hard drive (they go by hard drive size, not memory)

What do iPODs come with (i.e, headphones, etc.)? They come with the white earbuds that you stick in your ear. I later upgraded to regular headphones.

Do I have to buy any addtl necessities that the iPOD does not come with? You don't have to, but I got a carrying case with it to clip to my belt while at work or walking. We also have the car adapter so I can listen to it through the stereo speakers. That's kind of annoying though - if you think about that accessory, let me know and I'll explain.

Should I get an addtl warranty on it? We did. We had heard that the batteries are a problem so we got it.

Where should I purchase it from? We got it straight from the apple.com website. I might be wrong but I don't think there are discounts anywhere for them.

Any other helpful pieces of info that I should know?
The video iPod has a color screen and a bigger hard drive which you can actually store digital pictures on too with an adapter.

Also about the battery - they should only be charged when the iPod is almost dead. Don't leave it in extreme temps. Unplug it when it's done charging. That will prolong the life of the iPod battery.

Thanks for the response greenfreak.

So does the battery charger come with the iPOD or do you buy it separately?

What is an iPOD dock?

Do you think a 30GB (for a regular new iPOD) is sufficient or for the extra $ should I just get the 80GB?

So confused!

I have the 30GB Video Ipod and love it!

It comes with a connector cable that you can charge it through your computer. To charge it from an electrical outlet, you have to buy the adapter, it's about $30.

I got mine at the Apple Store since they are known to have good customer service. I have heard of other people buying them from Best Buy and buying their Extended Service Contract.

There's a power cord that you can plug in to charge it and also one that connects to the USB port on the back of a computer (to upload/download music and also to charge).

A dock can be for charging, or also if it has speakers, it can play the music on the iPod. The iPod itself doesn't have speakers - only a headphone jack.

I haven't even used 1/2 of my 20gb and I have about 1500 songs. But if you're going to put videos or digital pictures on it, the 30gb would be a good idea. There are download on iTunes for tv shows - those take up a lot of room!

You don't know how someone is going to use it up front, I'm sure. But to me, 80gb would be total overkill.

Does this person have any kind of music player now, so you can figure out how much they use it?

Thanks for your responses!

I personally dont even think FH is going to use it that much, but he loves electronics so of course he wants one!!

He currently does not have a music player, so i have no idea as to what in the world he would possibly down load on to this thing...

Best Buy has a really good warranty. We got all of ours from them.
