For ladies who never lived with FH.....

did you put furniture and living expenses in your wedding budget??? my girlfriend told me to put 6month worth of rent (whether or not we decide to buy/rent which is great advice).... but what about furniture ? how much should i estimate for that?

FH and I didn't exactly 'budget' just for that. Right now we're just putting away as much as we can until we move out in May/June. As far as renting, be prepared for 2 months security and first months rent. That's 3 months of rent right off the bat, just to move out, which makes me sick!! When it comes to furniture, if we don't have enough to get exactly what we want I'm thinking most places have specials at some point or another with interest free financing. We'll probably look for that. My plan is to go to Ashley furniture because they have some beautiful things at good prices.

I agree with the above poster. We know that we have to get furniture and we are putting money with each paycheck into our savings to cover the cost of the wedding and whatever else we may need, so yes that does include furniture. We are having a dormer put on my parents house so we know we won't be getting anything for a while anyway. I would like to order furniture when they run good sales. We are going by priority though...Living room, bedroom and kitchen sets are at the top of the list. If we have to wait for a while to get a dining room set we are ok with that.

As of now we are both putting money into our joint account and trying to save as much as we can before the wedding. This account is suppose to be for the wedding and the home (meaning to move out). As far as furniture goes we are gonna try to catch sales and see what we can do with that. Besides the wedding registry I'm going to start collecting little items that I see are on sale to make things easier.

We're pretty much just saving for the wedding right now, but what we're putting away each month should get us to have the whole wedding paid for a few months before the actual wedding, so anything from there would be living expenses. It is a good idea to have a couple of months worth of rent saved up...

I have my own apartment right now, while FH lives with his brothers. I have my own furniture...granted its all Ikea stuff for the most part. Ideally, we'll be able to buy good furniture before we move in together, but if not, at least we'll have my bed and couch and dinette set, etc. to make due for a while.

We're probably planning on using a little bit of wedding gift money on some furniture. Other than that, we'll continue saving as aggressively as we can when we're married and buy pieces when we can.

FH and I have been both been saving in our separate accounts to buy a home, we are looking now and so we are estimating the highest price home we can buy that will allow us to have some money left over for furniture once we pay our down payment... (ughh makes me sick thinking about it!)
