Hi - I'm still waiting to hear from my pastor but the office told me that they do not do masses for a Sunday wedding. Can you please tell me then what I can expect in just a ceremony? Are there still readings? the unity candle? How about long will we be in church? Due to timing issues I need it to be at least an hour (including ceremony, receiving line, pics). I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Also would like suggestions to help elongate ceremony if necessary. Thanks, Donna

Re: ? for Roman Catholic Brides (a little long)
A ceremony will have all of the nice meaningful stuff (readings, unity candle) but it won't have the prayers and communion of a full mass. It will be about a half hour. Your church probably doesn't have enough priests to accodomate your mass since they are only allowed to offer two masses a day and they probably have regular Sunday mass. If you really want a mass, see if you can import a priest from another parish. That is what I am doing because we don't have enough priests in my parish. Good luck!

I am only having a ceremony at a RC Church (next Friday ) We will have 3 readings (old, new and prayer of faithful) plus the hands prayer. He aslo does an opening and closing prayer. This along with the vows, rings and unity candle. I figure 25-30 minutes

Re: ? for Roman Catholic Brides (a little long)
a ceremony is the sacrament of marriage, without the whole mass, ie: sacrament of the eucharist.
ceremony will include 1 or 2 readings, i think you can choose 1 or 2, gospel and small homily (that is when the priests talks about the readings and how they relate to your wedding, etc). then sacrment of matrimony. don't know when the lighting of the unity candle comes in terms of order of ceremony.
with who nuptial mass with eucharist: all of the above, but i think after the gifts of the wine and bread, the priest performs the sacrament of marriage and then performs the sacrament of the eucharist.
the ceremony will be about 1/2 hour or so depending on how long the priest talks. i 'm not positive on the gospel and homily though for ceremony only.
nuptial mass, about 1 hour or 1 hr 15 minutes.
best bet: talk to priest, ask him to explain it all. if priest cannot do that then ask him to see if there's someone else (maybe the people that run the pre-cana) can talk to you about the order of the mass and music/readings, etc.
Good luck!
ps: the 'hands' prayer = the Our Father.

sounds like the ladies have covered everything. we were told our ceremony will be 40 minutes. if you add a receiving line & pictures, that could be over an hour & a half!

well I'm still waiting to talk to the priest but now I have a better idea. I didn't realize that the nuptial mass could run over the hour. My FH is fine with just a ceremony so I think I will stay with that.
