Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
In street clothes I was a 14 (not plus size, regular)
In formal wear, that was another story....
I can suggest trying dresses by the designer Jasmine. that was who my dress was by. Their sample dresses come with a built in panel to 'expand' upto a size 24 (I think). This was great b/c it still zips up (w/ the expanded panel) so you get a better idea of how the dress will look.

I am a size 14 but I was an 18 in my dress. I went to Macys. they had a panel that sealed the dress in the back (so I wasn't bare)

Davids has a ton of plus sized dresses. Even if you want a designer dress, you can get a feel for styles that look good on you there because the dresses will fit you! Also Alfred Angelo has dresses for the curvy woman! GL

I had an AMAZING experience in Pennsylvania. I know it's a hike - but they have an ENTIRE BUILDING of plus size dresses!!! They are the same dresses as the ones in the smaller dress size building - but just larger. It was the single best experience i've ever had trying on clothes - let alone dresses!!!
The girls there are amazing and you're treated like royalty! My MOH came with me and she said she wished she was treated as nicely as I was when she got her dress the year before!!!!
Bridaltown - www.bridaltown.com
I cannot say enough about them! I know it's a hike - but TOTALLY worth it to be able to try on dresses that are TOO BIG for you! Not one didn't fit!!!!! WONDERFUL!!!

I just called a bunch of places in NJ and asked if they had plus-sized samples to try on... the ones that said not many or no, I skipped.

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
They were the most accommodating at Fantasia bridal in Rocky Point. Even if the dress was too small they would lace me into it or clip me into it so I could get a feeling for how the dress would look. That was the only shop I went to that did that. Every one else said 'this is you section' and didn't show me any dresses that weren't in my size.

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
I just went to RK Bridal in Manhattan on Tuesday and I thought they had a large selection from sizes 16 to 22. I tried on about 12 dress that I liked. I loved 4 of the dresses. The lady that helped me was very nice. I also went to Macy's Bridal in Manhattan and tried on 3 or 4 beautiful dresses but they were all strapless and I am not looking for a strapless dress.
I am still going to look and call some other places and If I don't find anything then I will go back to RK for my dress.
I'm having a hard time when I went looking for dresses, and I gave up. I'm a size 16 and trying on dresses was the worst, even a size 20 didn't fit. I hated looking for dresses.

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
i am size 14 street and ordered a 18 even though she told me a 16 could fit if i just lost of 5lbs. My choice go bigger instead of risking it not fitting me.
ANYWAY the only way a dress fit was if it was a big ball gown. I didn't want that so i had to try on tighter fitting alines which for the most part didn't all the way go down on my hips so they would open up the dress for me and just lay it across me. Regular a-lines did go over my hips but were very tight.
That is how I picked my dress out. That is the only way I got to pick my dress out because when I tried on plus size gowns in Lynbrook they were WAY to big on me. Estelles had sizes 16-18 which the 16 fit fine on me just didn't like th dress.
Sad thing though after paying extra for the size 18 now i am dropping weight I could of ordered the 16 now.

So where do you all suggest going for dresses?

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
Every place I went to (half a dozen, at least) just put me in whatever size they had and clipped it. Bridal Suite even tied my fat a$$ into a size 6 Maggie Sottero (and I'm a 20 - gotta love that corset back).
I ended up buying from Fantasia in Rocky Point, but Bridal Suite Centereach also had a large selection.
In terms of designers, Maggie Sottero, Bonny, & DaVinci have a lot of very flattering plus size designs. Especially Bonny - the Unforgettable line (I think that's it) is really big.

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
Places i visited that i did try on dresses:
Estelles (had larger sizes)
I can't remember the store in lynbrook had plus sizes
Lydia's where i ordered my dress had size 10-12's but i purchased my gown there.
Lillete's had reg sample sizes but i could fit in most of them partially to get the idea.
That is all i recommended i went to other stores but didnt' care for their selection or sizes.

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
The worst part for me is that in clothes, i'm a 14, but as someone else said - the size 14 didn't even come close to getting over the 'girls'. I had issues with size 20 at some points too - which was VERY upsetting to me.
That's why when I found Bridaltown - i cried a little bit - i was so happy. As i said - they have a separate building for the larger sizes - so you're not trying on gowns with size 2's - making you feel worse. They will not put you in a dress that won't fit you - to make it even worse...in fact - almost all of the dresses were WAY TOO BIG and they had TONS of room...
It's totally random - it does look like the old west - they are all separate buildings. They have tiara rooms and veil rooms, very great place!!! Definitely check it out if you can!!! I'm picking up my tiara/veil from them this Saturday!

Re: For the 'CuRvy' Ladies...
I'm cursed, yet blessed with a huge chest lol. so I couldn't fit into anything on top. they just pinned it in the back. so I still went everywhere. maybe one day they'll make samples in dresses over a size 4!
