DH teaches in NYC , no for kids, yes for teachers- it is a conference day, the poor guy has to give a lecture on every day math!

Sorry that you guys still have to work

My sons school is open for students, and is a voting location. I'm not too happy about this. I called the school this morning and they said that they have 4 parents helping out, but this still just doesn't seem safe to me. The school has always been closed for election day, so I'm not sure why this year is different. Alot of parents are keeping their kids home, and I think I'll keep Scotty home too

My district is closed for the students, but teachers have to report. I think they originally planned to have students but changed it for security purposes.
If you're concerned, maybe your son should be 'sick' tomorrow

I agree, my son would be 'sick' too. You can never be too careful

My school district is closed for kids but I have to go in for super. conference day where we get to do a lot of BS workshops- yuck!

Yeah, I have definately decided not to send him, and I'll write the real reason on his sick note. I've gotten lots of phone calls today from other parents saying that they're not sending their children either. I think it's unfortunate that we have to worry about the security of our children while in school, but that's the way it is.
Hopefully they'll get the hint and be closed for the next election.

That or to give the kids a day off for security purposes great, but give me the time to work in my classroom, get my filing done, change over from Halloween/ El día de los Muertos to Thanksgiving! Something like that but these boring workshops that have NOTHING to do with what I teach
