Who are your officiants, and how did you choose them. I was at a rehearsal for a friends wedding today and I realized how special I want the ceremony to be. I need to choose an officiant. So your imput would be so helpful. Thanks...

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I will be meeting with Rev. Dr. Janine H. Burns, her website is http://www.ilovetodoweddings.com I talked to her over the phone & she seems really nice. She has a wedding kit which provides the layout of the ceremony and you can pick and choose the parts you don't want or want. It lets you create your own unique ceremony. Good Luck!

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I would definitely recommend Reverand April from Church of the Ancient Ways. She advertises on this site. A few other brides here have used/are using her. She wrote the most beautiful ceremony I have ever seen for us. It was very personalized, meaningful, and unique. Almost all of our guests took time to tell us how beautiful the ceremony was, and many had tears in their eyes. She is also so amazing, kind and easy to work with. Ours was non-denominational and non-religious but we incorporated 2 readings from both of our cultures, and did mention God in the ceremony. She emailed sereral drafts to me until we were happy, and she even put the final printed version of the ceremony in a binder covered with pretty fabric that she made herself, so that we have the ceremony as a keepsake.

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
We are getting married at our reception site. We are being married by the mayor of Port Jefferson. Which I am not overjoyed about... Apparently my FFIL is friends with him, and my FH and FFIL were discussing it one day and my FFIL said, Mayor so-and-so can marry you. So my FH said OK, and never told me. Meanwhile my FFIL had already asked the guy. One day I said to my FH, we have to find someone to marry us, he said, my fathers friend the mayor of PJ is going to do it. I said I dont want a mayor I want someone religious. He said oh, well my father already asked him. I was sooooo mad!! But it was too late, he had already been asked, and what am I going to do un-ask him?? So I guess I'll make the best of it. Sorry didnt mean to vent so long!! Once I started going I couldnt stop!!

We're getting married by a representative of the Ethical Humanist Society-since we are completely non-religious. You can check out their LI chapter: www.ehsli.org
Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I looked into this one...and called a few judges (one who was really crotchity to me) and finally got fed up...Why should I be married by someone who doesn't know me? My cousins got married by their ministers that they had known for so long...why do I have to get married by a stranger. Some states allow people to get certified for the day to perform ceremonies...NYS is not one of them. I wrote to Pataki about this and received no response...
So after a little research on the internet I found the Universal Life Church anyone can be ordained over the internet and perform a ceremony. It meets NYS' requirements of an officiant (there must be a building where services are held...there is a building in CA) So since we had an odd number of GM...we asked one to perform the ceremony.
Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I'm getting married at the reception site but we will have a religious ceremony. I am Catholic so I am having a priest and my FH is Pentecostal so we will also have a Pastor. We must meet with both of them and see how we can work both traditions into the ceremony. See if your local religious center can refer you to someone

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I second the recommendation for Rev. April. My guests also commented on how beautiful the ceremony was...and as far as getting to know you...during the initial visit, she takes the time to get to know you so she can write a personalized section in your ceremony. And through all the planning, you are practically best friends with her by the time the ceremony comes around!! I may be biased, but our ceremony was the best ceremony I have ever seen!! Go to the LIWeddings homepage and click on the link for officiants...she has a link to her website there and excerpts from ceremonies for you to look at. :) JOY

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I am getting married at the hall and was lucky enough to find a Priest and Rabbi that would perform this ceremony without much difficulty. I went to the Dioces of Rockville Centre website and found numbers for the churches in the area. After about 6 phone calls, 2 snotty receptionists we met with a Priest who has performed these ceremonies before. My FI is a police officer so we will be using the rabbi from the Jewish society he belongs too.

We are using Rev. Janine Burns after meeting with several others. We also know a couple who used her. She is one 'vendor' I can say that I knew 5 minutes after meeting her.

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
I notice you mentioned a priest who would marry you at a wedding site. Could I have his name? We are having difficulty finding a priest to marry us at the Swan club in May 2003. Thanks.

Re: For those being not being married in a church...
We booked a Priest for our wedding, Father Robert Allmen. I have heard several nice things about him and he seems nice on the phone but I have not met with him yet. 631-723-2012. I believe it is $375 Good Luck, it is frustrating to find a Catholic Priest to marry outside the church.
