Re: For those blocking hotel rooms . . .
I would send to everyone since even those who live in town may not want to drive after a night of drinking.

I agree. A lot of people I know are coming to the wedding want to stay in the hotel so they don't have to worry about driving home. I am going to arrange to have a van/bus drive all guests from the hotel to the reception and then again back to the hotel. No worries about drinking and driving.

Like I said before I'm not reserving any blocks because we don't have enought OOTG to warrant the extra expense. We are going to include hotel info for everyone incase they would like to stay overnight instead of having to drive home to the city.

If your reception is not at the hotel, they will have to drive anyway. I'm only including the info for those who are travelling to come. Also, to my knowledge, the Marriott chain does not charge a fee to block rooms. My MOH just did it for her wedding.

I'm sending to all, we know a lot of drinkers who wont drive, and we hope to get a bus of somesort to take them back to the hotel..depending on money, a lot of people take cabs too, or they drive but not as far as they might have.

Re: For those blocking hotel rooms . . .
FYI -- I've called several hotels on long island, and none of them require any fees. You block a certain amount of rooms for your guests and your guests have til a certain date to book or else they lose the discounted rate. Plus if your guests book all the rooms you blocked, most hotels offer a discounted bridal suite for the wedding night. I haven't decided which hotel to block with yet, but we're going to be blocking off 10 rooms for the weekend, since my wedding is on a sunday and most guests will take the weekend. Hotels are even more pleased when you do that, more $$ in their pockets.

I am having 20 rooms blocked at the Huntington Hilton (I think that was it) and I am only putting those little cards in the OOT invitations.

Re: For those blocking hotel rooms . . .
if you are blocking a lot of rooms you can run into a requirement to quarantee - but i am booking 60 rooms and i only wanted them to be at one hotel so that i can provide transportation - ionly have to quarantee 50% but some hotels will require more than that when you look for a lot of rooms

I sent it to everyone. I have had some long island guests say they might stay in the hotel. I just go hotel cards from the hotel and stuck them in the save the dates.

I sent to everyone who does not live in Nassau/Suffolk county with the only exception being FH's sisters and their families as they will stay at FIL's house. Most of my local guests have kids an won't be able to stay in a hotel... have to go back and pay a babysitter. My wedding reception also ends at 5:30 pm

I'm sending one to everyone. Some people may not want to drive home afterward if you know what I mean. That way the party can continue.
