For those dress shopping - RK Bridal

Just a warning if you haven't gotten your dress yet.

I got mine at RK Bridal and i was really happy with them. Great prices, they let you run wild in the racks and have an awesome selection at all price levels. But just to warn you, the alterations are a little expensive. They cap out at $350, but I think they have an unspoken 'min'. I just went for my first fitting and I need a regular bustle (my dress is pretty plain, no beading or lace or anything fancy) and the top straps taken in a little.

No hem, no changes to waist, body of dress, etc. Grand total = $250 !!! The bustle she said was $100 which ok, there is a little work there. But the shortening of the straps (which I think I could do myself practically) is $150.

The place is convenient and I don't mean to sound like a complainer, and I got a great price on my dress, so overall I am happy.

But if you use RK and know of a good tailor, do the no frills package and you save money on the cost of the dress and don't have to do your alterations there.

I think the $350 range is pretty normal for alterations actually. Mine caps at around the same I think....

Right, I agree. I just thought that if all I needed was straps and a bustle, it would be like $100 or $150. Seems like no matter what you have done, its around the $350 min.

I'm not saying don't go there, and I am glad with my choice. Just saying if you have another option for alterations, might be worth it.

I would agree with you, I got mine there for a great price and only needed a bustle and a little taking in at the chest, no hem, no other tweaks, and mine were $250. So I'd say they make a pretty big profit on that service, which suited me fine though, as it was convenient to my office and I could hop over for fittings very easily, so that saved me a little wear and tear closer to the day.

Thanks for the info - good to know! So, does that mean that most places have a minimum of $300 in alterations no matter what is being fixed?

I think all places do charge a lot for alterations. Just hemming a bridesmaid dress for me at a dry cleaner once was $110, so I think that's something we all have to suck up and factor into our prices.
