Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

here they are:
el gauchos steak house--must make a reservation.
rent a jeep & tour the island yourself, much more fun and romantic than the tour.
tunnel of love (has bats in there but they don't bother you).
natural bridge.
natual pool.
old gold mine ruins.
build a rock & make a wish.
baby beach.
de palm island.
california lighthouse for dinner at sunset.
do NOT swim on the other side of the island--dangerous!
black hog saloon (have mini golf here)
tatoo dinner cruise.
don't do timeshare looks, they waste so much time.
Tuscany's in the Marriot for steak.
bring scungi's (windy there but a refreshing wind).
bring aqua shoes for natural pool & snorkeling.
anything else email me at [email protected]
and ENJOY!!!!

Oh and I almost forgot, check this out it's a MUST!

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

Thanks so much for all those suggestions. I already went on that website, very beautiful hotel as well as the dinner for two. I'm already staying at the Radisson but I'm definetly going to look into those other things. Also can you still do the dinner for two on the beach even though you're not staying at the hotel??

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

yes you can, a friend of mine did it, and we plan to do it on our honeymoon.
the raddison is SO awesome you'll love it! i know i did!
the only reason we are doing the allegro is because its all inclusive and we'll be there for 2 weeks.
definately tell me what you thought when you come back!
oh and most hotels have casinos--good luck!

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

I just got back frm Aruba for my honeymoon and all those suggestions are great. We too were going to do the dinner on the beach in private, they offer it at the Hyatt, where we were staying. But we decided that 1) the price was not worth it. It started at $75 per couple for hor douvres, up to I think $200 for a meal and dessert. That was not including a set up fee of $50, plus tips for every person that waits on you (and there are plenty) 2)you can get a similar experience by going to Flying Fishbone. You won't be alone (it's a restaurant), but you are guaranteed excellent food and if you go around sunset (check the newspaper for the time) you see the beautiful sunset too. You eat right out on the beach there, you take your shoes off and while your sipping your wine, your toes are squishing around in the sand...it's awesome.
If you are interested in the private meal, I think the Hyatt's website has some info, but you can also go to their lobby and ask them for info as well. I don't think it's only for hotel guests either. Have fun and good luck with planning!

You will all enjoy Aruba on your honeymoon! Jenn is right! We went in October for ours and stayed 10 days (at the Marriott) and HAD THE BEST TIME!! My husband didn't want to come home!! Do all the things Jenn and Joy suggested! The Tuscany in the Marriott is a definite must, the food is delicious!!! And definitely go to El Gaucho, but make reservations for all the restaurants!! And take a sunset sail and go on those tire tube things -- the weather is perfect and it is soooo relaxing! The sunsets are AMAZING!!!! Have a great time!!!

I agree with bearsbabe with the Toscany restaurant at the Marriott. Another great one is Papiamento. Enjoy

Wow, I think I'll just print this all out, there's so many great suggestions on where to go, where to eat, what to do. After reading all this now I really cant wait to get there. Thanks so much for all the suggestions and I'm sure we will do at least half of them. I'll let you know how it all goes when I get back. Thanks again.

How long is the plane ride to Aruba? Do you have a layover?

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

the plane ride is like 1 1/2 to 2 hrs from Miami if I remember correctly.
I'll try the Hyatt beach dinner too Thanks!

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

My flight on AA leaves from JFK non-stop to Aruba and is 4 1/2 hours.

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

even better news about the plane ride: our flight left at 10:30 am, and was due in at 3:30 pm. But I guess because of the jet stream or whatever, we made it there a little after 2 pm! So you get to enjoy a little more of Aruba!
And since everyone else is offering up restaurant ideas: the 2 at the Hyatt are awesome...Ruinas Del Mar and The Palms. Excellent is the only word I can think of.
And you all know about the 'service charge' that's added on the bill right? The Hyatt, well actually the Palms, includes a little insert in their bill explaining the service charge. So I have the correct info about it...you'll probably hear a lot of different things, like 'no, it's not a tip' and 'yes, it is most definitely a tip, so don't add a tip to the bill'.
Here's the deal, a 15 % service charge is broken down to the following: 12% goes to the waiter and it is considered taxable income, and 3% goes to the other service people. My hubby and I figured out that their 12% taxable portion, is similar to our tipping etiquette here in the USA...any tips going to waitstaff here, is 'supposed' to be included on their income tax as taxable income. Thus, if you only paid the 15% service charge and didn't throw down a tip also, you've only tipped your waiter/ress 12%. What we did was left extra money as a tip, so that it totaled 20%, cuz that's what we usually leave here. If you have poor service (which seems to be rare there) I guess leaving just the 15% that they make you pay is sufficient.
I hope I explained that well.

Re: For those honeymooning in Aruba

We were supposed to be on a non-stop out of JFK (Delta), but 2 days before our wedding it was cancelled -- we were told because of 9/11 that they had cancelled that particular flight indefinitely -- so I was freaking -- who needs to hear THAT 2 days before (I was busy having breakdowns over other issues LOL )!! Anyway, they rescheduled us to leave out of LGA with a connection and lay-over in Atlanta. So, it was about 2 hours from here to Atlanta and another 2-2 1/2 to Atlanta. But because of 9/11, there was no food service out of LGA (security issues). We got fed on the plane from Atlanta to Aruba and then again from Aruba to Atlanta and then Atlanta to NY.

Now that I've babbled on and on, did I answer the question?!! LOL

I'm so jealous reading about all your upcoming honeymoons there!! I want to go again!!! Maybe I can convince my DH to get back on the plane for our first!! I'm lucky I got him on the plane for our honeymoon because the day after our wedding, we started bombing Afganistan and he told me to cancel!!! Of course, I didn't and told him I'd be going w/o him, he was a wreck, but he had a great time and didn't want to come home. Now he won't get on a plane anywhere and wants to take Amtrak and I'll NEVER get on that nightmare from **** train again in this lifetime! Oh well, I have to keep working on him!!
