I like 1. That is what I usually see on invitations.

I did not invite any children to my wedding and I did not state anything like you have written on my invitation about not having children. It was pretty obvious if you got an invitation and you have children and it was addressed only as Mr. and Mrs. instead of family that they weren't invited.
BTW- when I mentioned children I'm talking about young kids under 10.

JuneBride, I see your point clearly, however there are some people who are socially unaware and need things spelled out.
I need to do it this way.

You would think that if you sent the invitation out addressed solely to the adults that it would be clear that their children aren't invited, right? WRONG. My FSIL just had a surprise 30th birthday and when her mom sent the invitation out to one couple, they showed up with 3 of their 4 kids. They weren't even embarrassed and there were no seats for them!!! I'd add it - just in case - better be safe than sorry. JMO

Please do not go on the fact that people will assume the kids will not be invited. Then everyone will be calling you asking you if the kids can come and that will just work your nerves.

I put #1 and when I went to greet people at the reception one of DH's co workers has the nerve to bring their 6 month old child. He was in his car seat. He even ended up in a few of our photos!!!

I would not put anything on the invite... I agree with JuneBride21. Sorry girls just my opinion.
I will tell you that the people we knew who had children before we sent out the invites we made it quite clear to those individuals no kids allowed...

I would not put anything in the invite also, just address it to the people you want it to go to, it might create more of a problem, then if they call and ask , then tell then it is adult only, Fh and I are ready for this in case.

Unfortunaltey, people don't care. If you don't put ADULT on the card, they will respond with like a number 5 coming, and that will be their children. One thing I've learned in this wedding planning is people are tacky, and you basically have to spell it out for them

Whether you spell it out to them on paper or verbally, make sure your point is understood

Liz, I am going to put it.
As you said, people are tacky so I need to cover all my bases.
