If you're not taking FH's last name, have you discussed what the last name of the children will be? How did you come to the decision? Thanks!

If we have them (children) they will take his last name -- no hyphenating. My sister did the same. I will answer to 'Mrs. His-Last-Name' but after 38 years I can't be bothered to change my own.

They'll mostly have his last name, but my name as their middle name.

How did you come to these decisions and why did you decide what ou did?

We will hyphenate their names. Everybody seems to have some knee-jerk reaction against that, but I don't see why. There are plenty of hyphenated names in the world (Julia Louis-Dreyfus comes to mind), and also names that are just really long, or hard to pronounce, or whatever. So what's wrong with hyphenating?

We came to this decision...well, by me announcing that we were doing it that way. I have never been able to understand why a man's name should be given to the kids, but not a woman's. They're OUR kids, so they should have OUR names. Why would they have just his? I'm the one who will have to actually squeeze them out, after all! (FH wouldn't be marrying me if he didn't respect my opinions on this--he knew what he was getting into!)

We have discussed it and unfortunately haven't come to a reasonable conclusion. We thought about hyphenating and it's a possibility but I have a long last name and he has a simple last name so it looks/sounds silly. Bottom line is we are not certain how we'll do it yet.
