for those of you that are not returning to work

for those of you that are not returning to work

are you telling your empoyer that you are anyway to get your maternity benefits. This is what Ive been doing but I feel weird but I cant say im leaving or else I wont get my 6 weeks of pay.

also are people at work asking you what you plan on doing when the baby comes as far as daycare? So far Ive been avoiding all direct questions but I know that as time goes by Im going to have to go into more detail. I feel like I need to make up this whole story so that it doesnt look like Im lying to the company. then when Im on my leave Im going to call and resign telling them that I cant bear to leave the baby in day care. Does this sound right! i hate that I have to do this but I really need that 6 weeks of pay to recoup until I start my part time job.

Well in my case I think it was a given. I was given four months of unpaid maternity leave and then they told me that my job was guaranteed for that time, after that only if they had an open position. I worked in retail so my boss, just told me to let him know if I was ever interested. I'm not going back to work anytime soon. I honestly don't think I will, that's why I will be taking courses so that I can work from home. It's what feels right for me. I couldn't leave my baby.

I plan on not coming back to my present job, and hopefully finding a teaching job beginning in September. I am due to come back some time in July, but I plan on resigning at that point and having the summer to be with the baby.
I havent said a word, because I worry they will not give me my maternity pay if they know I am not returning.
When people ask about day care, I say that I am not sure exactly what I am doing, but I am hoping that my mom can watch the baby.

I told them I was coming back even though I knew I wasn't so that I would get my maternity pay. With regard to daycare questions, I told them we were going to use a daycare facility near my home, and when my boss asked I was able to tell him the name and where it was.

While I was pretty confident that I wouldn't go back, I wanted to keep my options open just in case I changed my mind. Daycare would have been a minor problem, but we were confident that it would all work out in the end.

how was it after- when you did tell them- were they shocked?

I knew I wasn't going back to work but, I kept telling them that I needed the money so of course I will be back. Nobody was bold enough to ask about the daycare. (I'm kinda of shocked that they would even ask) You could always tell them that you are having a local woman come to your house.

When it came to the time my maternity leave was up I made up the excuse that the woman I hired was from Ireland & her Mother was very sick & she had to go back home. There for leaving me stranded without a sitter. So, I wasn't able to go back.

That's exactly what I did although under the FMLA you are entitled to 12 weeks of leave during which you can collect disability.
