I'll ask my DH today, but I don't remember it as being expensive...and our guy even had to repair some of the stones on the chimney.

I don't recall - I think for about $400 we had our chimney cleaned, and the bricks at the top needed the morter repointed, and we had chimney caps put on (a must-do - to keep out squirrels and critters).

thanks girls.
another question: how often do you need to do this? fh and i bought our home back in februray and we want to get it cleaned now that it's springtime and we won't be using it. i'm assuming i only need to do it once or twice a year?

I think once a year at most, and maybe every few years if you're not using it heavily.

my grandparents have one. they get it cleaned once a year and it runs them about $150. they had a chimney fire about 20 years ago which prompted the cleaning. it is a good idea to do!
