How did you make the decision on relocating out of state?
We have no idea where to even begin.
We really don't want to move, but we feel as if are never going to be able to afford a place of our own on long island.

Well I hear ya My husband and I are moving to Illinois, because of his job. He is getting transferred. I'm a little sad to leave LI but we would never be able to afford it here! That's for sure! The prices there are sooo different!

We are moving to CT because it is still close, but the prices are much more reasonable (in the Hsrtford area anyway), the taxes are cheaper, and our college friends all live in the area.

well..it was kind of easy for us. DH one sister has been in GA for 5 years. We came to visit while dating and on that drive back to NY realized we wanted to get married.
We knew we couldn't afford a home on LI from the beginning and we both wanted out of NY way before we even met.
You can research growing areas....the metro atlanta area is one of the fastest growing areas with young couples.
we also wanted to ditch the NY Winters....so look at some of the 'silly' things you want or don't want, like warm vs seasons, pace of life (it's so slow down here and we love it)

We're in Va. I always wanted to move back here (I was born near DC), and the job market for teachers and school psychologists (dh's job) is much better.
The DC area housing is comprable to NY (tho taxes are cheaper), but if you go near Richmond, it's much cheaper.
We're even contemplating moving down to Charlotte, NC.

Me and FH moved to Charlotte, NC last year and we moved out of LI for the same reason that you are talking about (money)
There was no way we were gonna be able to rent an apartment in LI. A friend of mine who is also from LI moved down to Charlotte almost 3 years ago and she talked me into coming to visit her. Once we went down to vivst and saw how cheap the apartments are (we pay 717 for a 2 bedroom apartment in a complex with a pool, weight room, garden tub in the master bathroom, huge spare bathroom with a tub) can't beat that. I will never be moving back to LI
We've been looking at houses and just to give you an idea there are 2 story houses (3br/2bath) that you can get for around 125K

we moved to miami; we had been here before a couple of times and decided to give it a try. It's a lot cheaper and the weather is a plus, only hurricane season *****. We have a nice apartment and are planning to buy in a year or so; we definetly made a good choice.

We just moved to Virginia. We knew a lot of people down here, and we also realized we'd never be able to own in NY. So DH found a job first, then we found an apt and we moved. Now I'm looking for a job still, but I got a part time one at NY & Company.

we live in ct. my job is here and the taxes are lower. the realestate market is BOOMING here and there are condos going up everywhere. fh moved here a few mos ago. hes getting used to it and seems to like it very much. change is good!!!
