I looooooved the baskets of stuff. But the GOOD baskets. The ones filled with things I really needed. I love the basket of towels my friend made me, but it also had a shower curtain and liner, hooks, linen sprays, candles, a bathroom picture...

I also loved the table basket, it was in a bread basket, with placemats, tablecloth, cloth napkins, napkin rings, and even a little flower centerpiece.

Those things are the most thoughtful, it takes time and effort and they always make you feel special!

My Honeymoon basket filled with my bridal slippers for reception, weddingnight & HM lingerie, candles, wedding bears etc..

And my all occasion basket, with stuff for every holiday for my house!

My story is actually funny...

I have these little red dots on my upper arms (not as gross as it sounds). They are barely visible, but of course, they are to me. One of my girlfriends got me exfoliating gloves and that was my favorite gift because it was so personal...she's a good listener. I don't complain about it often (because I don't want to draw attention to it), but she got the jist that I was self conscious about it and wanted to help.

MORAL OF THE STORY...I had thousands of dollars worth of gifts and $5 exfoliating gloves made my day because it was so thoughtful! Try to think of something that she really needs or would like that she wouldn't think to buy herself.

Misty I did that for my matron when it was her shower.

I made her 2 baskets. 1 was the fun basket with lotions, a sexy nightgown, candles, incense, perfume, bath beads and bath soaps.

her second basket was kitchen stuff. It was all things I got off her registry and I included some extras like dish towels, oven mits, place mats and napkin rings.

She loved it.

I think those are the best gifts because they really do take time to put together and so much thought goes into it.

I loved the basket gifts I got

But I think my favorite non-basket gift was the digital video camera

Re: For those of you who had your shower..

My best gift was just having my sister home for the shower. Maybe that sounds corny, but I love my sister so much, and she lives in San Fran. I don't get to see her often.

Most people just got stuff off my registry, which was good becuase it's what I wanted, but it wasn't all that special.

Other people got stuff that wasn't on my registry and I didn't want... and no receipts! I'm not ungrateful AT ALL for the gifts, I just don't want someone to have wasted all that money on something I already have or can't use for whatever reason.

I think the best physical gift was the BBQ that FMIL gave us. We bought a house in December and have a nice EMPTY deck. Now we have a BBQ out there! Of course, still no patio furniture though....

There were a few gifts I was hoping to get but didn't, and they weren't gifts you can put on a registry. The first was that I was hoping someone would make a copy of my grandparent's wedding picture and give that to me in a nice frame. The second I was hoping would be from my aunt who lives in the house that was my grandmothers. Grandma had a BEAUTIFUL stained glass window where her staircase turns. Aunt and uncle took it out and replaced it with a normal window. Aunt told me she would check with uncle, but she was sure I could have the old stained glass window. I was SO EXCITED, thinking I would get it at the shower. I didn't, but maybe she is saving to give it to us for the wedding? Those gifts would have made me cry on the spot...

T -you'll like this - I know I did.

My favorite gift was the one Niecey and mv1003 from this board got me - they bought me 6 of my formal water goblets from Lenox, and inside each glass was a rolled up teeny weeny pair of thong panties in all different colors! I got baby blue and navy, pink and black, lavender, snow white lace, solid black, gold and black...it was a huge hit and all the ladies started hotting when they saw them! It was such a cute idea!

Edited to say: FH liked the idea too

OHH how naughty...

See Yes I can get her stuff off her registry but I want to get HER something no one else would take the time to buy and create and wouldn't want to spend the $$ on...

I think everyone gave you good suggestions. One of my favorite 'original' gifts was a silver charm bracelet with a heart charm that had my new initials engraved on it. They sell them at Tiffany's or Things Remembered.

Re: For those of you who had your shower..

best gift --- one of my BMs and girlfriends from college made a 'stoybook collection' of the bridal party. Totally handmade and obviously handmade, but the most touching thing i think i have ever received. On the cover was a pic of me and FH and our wedding date etc. On the inside was a pic of all of the girls in the bridal party and a brief intro. one on each page. and then, a smaller pic of that person and me. and then she had each one give her a personal story about us or just me. there were a couple i was so touched and surprised by. it served not only as a gift for me but as a way for the BMs to get to know each other better!! it was so sweet. plus, i had no idea it was coming. she worked with FH to put it together using digital photos and stories he sent her on email. Then she simply printed it out on pretty paper and tied it together with ribbon. all that work and the fact that FH and all the BMs had helped made me really feel special!
(sorry so long, it just meant a lot to me!)

my sister gave me the best gift. She had some pictures of our grandparents and of her and I as kids, had them reprinted and framed them. I have them hanging in my house now!

If they are getting a house one of my favorites was an engraved door knocker and wind chime with our new name on it

Re: For those of you who had your shower..

I loved all my baskets, esp. the Nasty Basket for the honeymoon, which we are opening when we get there, so I'm still not sure what's in it.

But the BEST gift I got was a scrapbook of ALL the e-mails my BP sent back and forth to each other as they were planning the shower. It was incredible! I kept telling my sister it kinda stinks being the bride because you are left out of all the fun planning for the shower! So she saved all the e-mails. Some were from my FH, one was from my boss, RSVPing that she couldn't come, but saying wonderful things about me. Reading through them I just sat there and cried, because I could see just how much time, effort, and excitement went into the shower. Mostly, I could see how much they all really cared about me. So that would have to be my favorite gift.

I also liked a candle basket I got. It's a basket with several pairs of taper candles in different colors. It comes with a poem, and you burn each set of candles for different milestones in your life together. If you're interested, FM me, and I'll give you to poem and more details. I was also one of my favorites.

One of my friends made me a basket with all of the different alcohols that I drink and 2 glasses. I thought that was kind of neat.
