For those of you who had/are having a band at your reception....
Did you give them a 'must play' list? If so, how many songs did you put on it.
We have about 20, and I want to know if that's too much. My bandleader said we can pick 60 songs and they'll play them, but I don't want to pick every song played. It's their job to read the party and play to the guests.

Hey Band twin!
They gave us the sheet with all of they song they know on it, it was so long!
We crossed out what we didn't want played, checked what we liked and then gave a list of the must play.....there were maybe 8 songs on it tops.....BUT, he didn't play My Girl for my mom and I. I didn't realize it until about a month after the wedding when I was driving home.....I said s**t! he didn't play my song!!
But they were so great anyway that I couldn't be mad for long.. What kind of music do you like?

I gave them a do not play list, a request list and a must play list. What they'll most likely do is stick to your must haves and go with your play list as a guide, but they'll mix it up once they get a feel for your crowd. My band stuck with my play list, but threw in some songs that I didn't request but loved anyway.
eta - my request/must play list had about 45 songs.

Hi! We like everything on the Full House list (that's why we picked them....we like rock music)....I'm basically taking all of my songs off of there. I think I'll send it over to Joe and see what he says....

I'm thinking that's what will happen.

I had about 16 must plays..about 10 do not plays. I did not dictate the evening though. They read the crowd perfectly and did what they were good at.

I am in the process of doing this...Basically I am giving them the 'Must' plays for the key moments at the wedding..
Otherwise I am including a couple of songs we definately want to hear & then telling them to play anything with the exception to rap & hip, hop

I would just check off what you don't want on the list and then just let them play. That's what we did and it was great. There were some songs that I was OK with but the dancefloor was packed so it was fine with me.
Are you gonna be my girl by Jet was great and they did You're So Beautiful by Pat McGuire and it was awesome.
You'll be so happy....

DH asked them to play it even though he really hates it, but he knows I love it.....they will learn a few songs if they don't know them already too.....but they knew it.

Re: For those of you who had/are having a band at your reception....
DH is really into music. He made a huge spreadsheet of songs and the artists. Obviously there wasn't enough time to play all of the songs, but we wanted to give the band an idea of what we liked. We put stars next to the songs that we really wanted played. We also made a list of songs we didn't want played (i.e. no line/group dances).
