for those of you who have a band

what song selections are you giving them aside from the usual cake cutting/first dance/etc?

I guess what I am looking for is are you giving them specific songs to play or a specific type of music?

I did not specify any songs aside from first dance and parent dance. I hired them because I liked their style and trusted that they would select good songs based on the mood of the crowd. I was very happy with what they chose.

I didn't specify either- actually I only specified 1st dance & parent dances and 2 special requests- other than that- they know what's good- and I hired them because of that.

that's what I thought. I guess it's just a little weird seeing the other brides trying to pick out all these songs and I was thinking I have:

introduction
first dance
cake cutting

and I'm done! Just seemed a bit too simple. I do love the style of my band and was just going to go in there with a sheet of paper and say play whatever you want! I don't care!! I'll just tell them to read the crowd.

I am enclosing a song selection card with my invites asking guests to list their fav song(s)

once I get them all back I will make a song list of all those songs and give them to my band leader, along with the songs I want for first song/mom son, etc.

I did that too but with my SaveTheDates and I only got 2 cards back. So thats why I really dont care what the band plays! I hope you have a better turn-out from your guests. Some told me that they had never seen it before and weren't sure what to do with it (even though I included a poem and a self-addressed stamped envelope!!)

That is very thoughtful to as guest what they want. My band gave a packet of songs and i am crossing off those i can not stand and a few I love - other than that they will go by ear.

Perhaps the reason why they didn't send it back was because they were confused being that you sent it out with your STD's?

Mine simply says to fill it out and include it with their note of acceptance.. my parents went to this wedding once and that idea really stuck in their head..

Yeah I guess that could be the reason, but I did include an envelope with a stamp on it and put the card halfway IN the envelope and put LINES on it for them to complete......

thats okay!!

I only have 6 weeks left -- and in the beginning I thought it was such a great idea. At this point in time -- I have other things to worry about.
