For those of you who have been to Hawaii

It really depends on what you are looking for. Honolulu is more city, Maui is more what I expected of Hawaii. I spent 2 days in Honolulu and thought that I might have been able to spend another day to do things but was happy that we went to Maui from there. We also spent time in Kona on the Big Island but I wished we had staying in Maui longer.

YESSSSSSSSS!!!! You're not going to get the 'real' hawaii experience unless you go to Maui. JMO- I would DEFINITELY consider going there as well. IMHO Honolulu is very commercial and feels a little like Miami, except more Asian influence rather than Spanish.

FM me if you want more info

I agree with the above posters. I would only spend like 2 nights in Honalulu and the rest on one or two of the islands (I recommend Maui).

We went to Maui 5 nights and Kauii 5 nights. I loved loved loved Maui. You can just drive around, go to beaches and quaint towns. I really loved it. But what is great about Hawaii is that there is an island for everyone's taste. So it really depends on what you like and what you plan on doing.
From what I understand, Oahu is city, Kauii is country and maui is in between.

You are going all of that way and I am not sure how big of travelers you are, but if you don't get back there, you may as well see it now.

ITA , only i preferred Kau'i over Maui ( even though they are both nice). Honolulu and Ohahu are like going to miami only its a looooooooooooong flight

We went to Kauai and Maui for our honeymoon. If you want to go to Pearl Harbor, go to Oahu for two nights and then try other islands. We prefered Kauai over Maui - it was just plush and green and beautiful. Maui was amazing also though!

I agree that you should go to other islands. We went to Oahu for 2 nights. We mainly went there for Pearl Harbor. It is more of a city.

Maui was a lot of fun and very nice, so I do recommend going there too. If you go to Maui, do a day cruise to Lanai (it's an island part of Maui) through this company called 'Trilogy' - it was a lot of fun.

Flying between the islands isn't bad - it's about 20 min - 45 mins, depending on which island you're going to.

I went to Maui and Kaui. I loved both, but Kauai more. It was more pristine and untouched. Its the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

I absolutely agree with everyone here...you must go to at least one other island Maui and Kuaui are both beautiful but different. I don't know which one I prefer more...Maui is a great place to go sightseeing and see and do things but Kuaui is lush and green, a rainforest and very relaxing. There's canyons to hike around, blowholes and it's just really beautiful...this thread makes we want to go back so bad

I agree. i just got back from oahu yesterday ( we were there for 3 days) and the only things worth doing there are pearl harbor and the polynesian cultural center which would take 2 days. otherwise oahu is very city-ish and not very much different from san fran. i wouldn't recommend doing any water sports there except maybe surfing...

We spent our entire honeymoon in Kuaii and loved it. It's still pretty pristine and not run over with tourists as much as the other islands. There are still places of the island that aren't accessible by roads, so the landscape is amazing (no skyscrapers, stuff like that). It's pretty rural though compared to the other islands...but we felt like we were living like locals. I have pics in my album...

i went to honolulu for work which at the time I was working with my fiance...we stayed at the hilton which was amazinggg....hands down nices place I ever stayed in...there is not too much to do there, they have shopping like a regular city....BUT there is stuff to do on the island..we went hiking through a rain forest..my Fh's cousin lives there so we went to kailua (sp?) which is the southern part of the island was amazing ...went snorkeling in an old valcano that flooded in this nature park, we went surfing there, saw sea turtles and a sea lion...and that is the island where they have all the crazy surfing competitions....it was really beautiful there..we rented a jeep and toured the whole island....one of the most amazing times of my life
we did go to Kuaii as well....SOOOOOOOOooo beautifull!!! untouch beauty...no nightlife....but so relaxing and just amazing....they have this little town there on the northern part of the island haliejva(sp again?) that was so cute....like nothing I have ever seen before
i know this is a long one...but hawaii is the most amazing place you can go..you'll have a great time wherever you go
I just wanted to give you a perspective on Oahu...Ive never been to Maui, but I did have a great time in Oahu
