This may be a stupid question, but what do you wear? Sneakers? Shoes?

Re: for those of you who have taken dance lessons
How many lessons are you taking?
We took 12 lessons & the first 3 we wore sneakers or loafers, just to get the steps down, then we wore dancing shoes to get used to it.

My friends got us a GC for 6 private lessons. Also, my mom owns a dance studio so she can help us after our lessons.

Re: for those of you who have taken dance lessons
I wore sneakers for most of the classes, but many of the steps are much easier if you wear shoes with less traction. I would say that about half the women in my class wore sneakers, while the other half wore dress shoes.

We found ti helpful to wear comfy shoes for the first few lessons, but it does also depend on the flooring in the studio. Some studios will not let you wear shoes with marking soles or heels. I would ask the instructor before class.
ETA: We took Swing lessons & could NOT wear socks b/c it would have been dangerous, especially during stunts.

Thanks everyone. I called to aks and they said for me to wear heels and FH to wear shoes. I'll probably wear a small heel because I don't wear heels all that often, FH is only an inch and a half taller than me!

I've been wearing heels...once I wore flip flops - surprisingly, they were very comfortable to dance in.

My friend's husband's family owns the Arthur Murray studio on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. My mom's dance studio is in Purchase, but she teaches kids tap, jazz and ballet, not ballroom.

Re: for those of you who have taken dance lessons
The first few I wore sneakers because that's how my feet are most comfortable. Then I tried shoes and it made life so much easier- especially the turns. Right before the wedding I wore my wedding shoes just to practice in. Have a great time! I loved dance lessons.

Re: for those of you who have taken dance lessons
I wore heels and my Fh wore sneakers at first... This made learning the dance steps harder for him. So now he wears shoes
