We didn't either (although I didn't have to worry about all of those things because DH and I bought one of my dad's houses). I would assume it would be pretty clean though.

I would say bleach. Our house had appliances from the stone age so we had to buy all new stuff...lucky us. Hello, PC Richards credit card!

Try those clorox wipes and leave it open to dry... I would turn the thing on until the clorox dries up.. you sound like me!

I ran the washing machine with just clorox for a whole cycle.
ETA: I jsut realized you were asking about the dryer. Oopss... Make sure you clean the vent where the lint catches othewise you can start a fire if it builds up. Mine is at the top of my machine but some are where the door opens.

thanks for all the suggestions - luckily we bought the house 2 months before the wedding so i have a good amount of time to do all this hardcore cleaning - it also helps that i am a teacher and next week i am free and clear

I agree.. unless the dryer is dirty and disgusting I don't see a reason to clean it. Our was so dirty, disgusting, and rusty, so we are getting a new one.

We did the same thing for our washer
I've used dryers at the laundromat and didn't think twice, so I guess its the same thing We cleaned out our dryer with bleach. The old owners were out of the house for 6 months before we moved in, so I wanted to get rid of any creepy crawlies.
