For those of you with a solitaire setting.........

Original post by DCSAAB06

Is it white gold or platinum?

Im considering changing my setting. I have a round 1.75ct with two baguettes (one on each side)in a white gold setting.
I lost a baguette not too long ago( and I hear very common) and instead of going to a where it was originally made, I went to a local jeweler I deal with who replaced it with but with not an exact match because I freaked and couldnt look at it like that. (I can get it fixed)
Now I am soon going to be looking for wedding bands.
So I figured I may do a change to the solitaire.
I noticed they go with any band.
Would u recommend platinum or white gold?
I hear a solitaire setting makes the diamond appear larger That could work.

TIA!

ETA: Anyone with pics...if you could add, that would be great!

I have an engagement ring and wedding band in white gold. I do get them dipped about once a year in Rhodium to make them sparkly clean.

My wedding band is a copy of the Tiffany's ring. I took the picture off the Tiffany's website and he made it for about 600 dollars less.

Do u mind me asking, how big is your diamond?
Just to compare and see how my diamond would look in the solitaire setting.

It does look beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

I have a sort of solitaire setting in platnium. It's hard to explain, and I haven't been able to get a great picture of the side, but it's a high setting, with a band of diamonds around the crown, so from the top it looks solitaire, but from the side it's unique and different.

Hopefully these pics will work:
ETA: (resizing pics)
Also, from the side shot you can see how platnium gets a little scratched from hitting it on my desk or computer at work.

My E-ring is a solitare with no baguettes in a 6 prong platinum setting. I chose platinum because I wear my mom's wedding band and it is platinum and I liked the idea of it being a stronger metal. DH wanted platinum for his band because he is sensitive to other metals

Mine is not a Tiffany's ring, but looks very much like this one. It has a knife edge band, which really has not scratched that much in the year and 4 months I have worn it. I think it is due to the fact that only the very narrow edge comes into contact with any surface. I love it and would highly recommend it.

I have the exact same ring...but i noticed that my knife edged band did scratch and it is platinum. i was surprised

Mine is Platinum - Tiffany Setting - I am having a hard time finding a wedding band to fit perfectly with it though. Because it is a solitare I want my wedding band to be alot of diamonds

I have the same e-ring as you do. I ordered my wedding band a few weeks ago. It's a 5 stone diamond platinum band with a very low setting. It really works well with the 6 prong tiffany setting - IMO. It's a perfect fit! and it looks AMAZING!!

Re: For those of you with a solitaire setting.........

I have a 4-prong solitaire and I did have a tough time finding a wedding band that sat under the prongs. This is similar to what I ended up going with. It looks like channel-set but is in a 4-prong setting too. The diamonds go almost all the way around and I think there's about 13/14 of them.

ETA: I believe it's called a milgrain band.

I have a thick (3.3mm) platinum solitaire setting and I love it. My wedding band is the same width (actually, it may be 3.5mm) channel set eternity band with round diamonds. Perfect amount of bling bling if you ask me
