For those that Cancelled at Thatched Cottage

Are any of the couples who cancelled ...

1) Have you filed or even received your claim form yet?

2) Are you going to the meeting of the creditors on Friday---or know anything about it?

Thanks for any info!

For those that Cancelled at Thatched Cottage - Long Island Weddings

Hi We did cancel- we did not yet file a claim. All we've done is send our cancellation letter via return receipt. I didn't know anything about a meeting of the creditors-or even if we're important enough that we'd go? He owes millions to people and I feel like my 5k is at the bottom of his list.

I think my fiancé is going to go and see what is going on. We don't know much about it but we did file our claim and want to find out what the chances are of us getting our money back. This whole thing is a giant pain in the @&&! Grrrr

Honestly...I hate to say this, but I feel like I kissed 5k goodbye. I am doubtful we'll get anything back anytime soon, I'd imagine we'll get a fraction back, 30 days after the date of the scheduled event like the contracts say. Did you re-book elsewhere?

I'm not sure how this is all legal and how our contract is null and void now. I think that is my main reason that I want to show face on Friday. I'm confused as to how we are being treated like a creditor. I didn't loan anyone 5k, ya know? I just can't chalk it up to a loss because it's a major piece of our budget for venue. Oyyyy

I could be wrong, but my understanding of it is that since he filed for chapter 11, it basically gives him the right to void our contracts. Once a company has filed, they are no longer in control of their finances and all payments and debts are settled by a court. Since he owes us services or $$, I guess we're considered creditors. If I had to guess I'd say our deposits went right into fixing up the place next door...infuriating.

That's my understanding as well however I think I am in denial because I can't imagine a law that says you can keep money that isn't rightfully yours under contract AND continue to take in more revenue while you're at it. Disturbs me to no end. I'm so disheartened by this whole turn of events and just can't believe that we have to take a 5k loss for no reason. We did nothing wrong. Sorry to vent on here but something is so very wrong about this.

When I heard about what happened to TC I came back on this site to see what you ladies have been saying about/doing about you're upcoming weddings and I just want to say - I am so sorry to each of you for what you're going through but please take this piece of advise.....go to the meeting that was mentioned!!! I have no idea where they are in the bankruptcy process but if you're not there to fight for you're money then the debt that TC owes to you may be discarded by the terms of the bankruptcy.

Yes, I got a package from their lawyer yesterday. We sent it off to our lawyer to file. I am also filing in small claims court. Everything has to be submitted by april 4th. Thatched Cottage hasn't even filed for reorganization.. little scary!
I'm so happy that we rebooked with Villa Lombardis. Good luck everyone.

Re: For those that Cancelled at Thatched Cottage

I am supposed to have my wedding there in August. I am so worried. I just dont know what to do. If all the creditors dont agree they have to close. I cant bank on that. I dont know what I am going to do for a venue. I am only having 40 people and that's why the Thatched Cottage was good for us since we had a hard time finding a venue who caters to a small group. Any suggestions?

We had our wedding booked for 8.3114 and canceled as soon as we got word. Makes sense the whole time they have been so hard to negotiate things the whole time. All in all in happy I have rebooked elsewhere. The whole TC experience has been terrible. We got out letter from attorney (which was rather nasty) yesterday and I intend on taking this as far as I poss can. I have 6500 invested and he goes and fixes up jellyfish with OUR money. So fed up with the shady business the TC is doing. Anyway on a more positive note we rebooked for 8.30 at chateau la mer

We're so stuck on what to do. We booked early for a reason... I'm a nursing student and don't have time for this! I graduate a month before my wedding as it is, now I have to worry about my venue going in the dumps. ??
If i did cancel, how would I go about getting my deposit back?

What a nightmare, I'm so sorry you all have to deal with such nonsense. Going to that meeting seems worthwhile. Hopefully you can get back at least some of the money if not all of it

No they're not closing. They filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and are reorganizing but right now they're working things out with their creditors so it's all confusing.
