For those that have had an engagement party...

For those that have had an engagement party...

Our E-party is being hosted by a friend at her home on June14th.

Did guests bring you gifts? And if so, were they off of your registry?

I really just want everyone to come and enjoy themselves, I hope people don't feel obligated to bring a gift.

What was your experience?

Thanks!

I didnt get a chance to register. I really didnt think of it b.c I figured I would register for the bridal shower. Some people gave us $$$ and I think one person gave us a really nice picture frame and some people gave us nothing. Looking back it I prob. should have registered for a few things like my toasting flutes, cake cutter etc.

I just had my e-party 2 weeks. It was small..about 40 ppl at a restaurant for lunch..but I would say out of 40 ppl about 39 gave us cash. I didnt register because the party was a last minute thing, but the cash is always helpful around this time.

I am having one on June 28th, and I registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for basically everything we want. I actually registered right after we got engaged because so many people were asking where we were registered. But we haven't gotten too many gifts off of it yet.

our party was great. we mostly got cash, but registered in case someone felt like giving us a gift.

We registered, but I also put on the invites that 'This is not a gift-giving occasion...' that way no one feels obligated to bring a gift.

I am having mine the same date as yours. I registered at Fortunoffs for a couple of things so people can bring a gift if they wish.

like 95% of the people who came gave us $$$ ---one person gave us a salad spinner that I totally didn't want (but thats a long story), we also got a huge wedding planner book, and 1 person gave us nothing.

We got money, we didn't want any gifts because we had no place to store them.

I am not registering for my e-party b.c I want people to give my cash gifts if they decide to give me a gift.

I dont want to register for anything but my shower. Some people have been unhappy about this but I really don't need anything right now . . . we are not living together or anything.

I made a quickie registry because people were asking me, and I got some stuff off it, plus a lot of GCs to the actual store. I got my everday china, all my Mikasa wine and martini glasses, bath towels, Corningware, flatware and other odds and ends. It was helpful for my guests. I told them where I was registered; I heard it was tacky to put the cards in the invites

I wasn't going to register but my family started pressuring me to because they all were excited and wanted to buy us gifts. When most people called, they asked where we were registered. Everyone gave a gift...around 1/2 were money and 1/2 registry items.

2 separate groups of friends threw us engagement dinner parties, therefore we did not invite people per se but we had registered and some asked if we did and almost all bought us somehting off the registry

we did not register.. because we dont' have our own place yet.. and figured... we don't want to have to store a TON of stuff at that point... and we were hoping that people wouldn't feel obligated to go out and SHOP FOR US... and either. a. give money.... or b. who even cares about a gift...

but we still got tons of GIFTS...a coffee pot, crock pot, tons of picture frames, etc. and some money

our was in VA so we didn't get cash. I got a couple of gift certificates and some nice gifts.

Then, the majority of people contributed to a pool of travelers checks to use on our honeymoon!

It was a very casual, lunch party and a surprise (not a lot of family invited) so we didn't get a TON of money but we did get about $600 in the travelers checks - MUCH APPRECIATED!

we wanted to put in the invites 'NO presents because your presence is our present' but i was told by fmil and family that its rude??

So im not sure. Ill be happy with anything or nothing!
