for those that work in the city? what do u keep in ur desk 'just incase'

i m not useed to commuting everyday into the city and m feeling kind of overwhelmed....i m already thinking of all the things i will need 'just incase' to keep in my desk....
for not only saftey, but also being i will b there all day not at all close if i need to 'run home' so what do u keep at work just incase...
this is what i was thinking of...

sneakers/extra socks
gloves/scarf
toothbrush/toothpaste
umbrella
gum
snacks (working late)

i have:
contact lense solution & case
socks
sneakers
scrunchie
sweatshirt
toothbrush/paste/floss
and $20 bill hidden away- if something happens the cash machines might not be working.

I have all that you and Sassy listed, plus (she says, looking in my desk drawer...)

advil/tylenol/ OTC medicine for all sorts of ailments

pantyhose (I hardly wear pantyhose/skirts anymore b/c we are business casual, but otherwise this is a must)

lint brush

band aids

extra makeup (spare lipstick, nail polish/polish remover)

feminine products

splenda/sugar packets/tea bags/etc

ETA: oh also we have a little mini emergency kit that we were given, which contains flashlight, snacks, and things of that nature)

everyone is so prepared, I should have paid attention in girl scouts. I don't bring anything, just metro card and cell phone

Gosh, I don't really keep much at my desk. Some anti-bacterial lotion, tissues and a mug.

I have an old pair of sneakers under my desk but they need to be thrown away...I am afraid some little visters could have had a party in there.

i have sneakers/socks, a flashlight (given to us by the company), feminine products, contact case and solution and tons of food. but i eat the food for lunch or snacks, it's not purely emegency food. plus in my bag that i bring everday i have face powder and every sort of drug i could need.

extra cash, that's a good idea i should do that.

shoes under the desk...UNDER THE DESK!!!!

I had to cover for this one secretary that had an entire DSW under her desk. I had to sit with the keyboard on my lap in order to get work done.

That would probably be me..I have about 6 PAIRS of shoes under my desk..hahaha

Nah that about average. This woman literally had 3 copier paper cartons full to the top with shoes crammed under her desk. She had small feet too, so there were a lot of pairs in each.

DH and I don't even own that many pairs combined.

my mom gave me a ittle emergency kit after the blackout with a flashlight, toothpaste, etc.
I have accumlated on my own, nail polish remover, feminine hygeine products, hand lotion, clorox disinifecting wipes, a water bottle, coffee mug, cereal bowl & spoon, napkins, straws, plastic bags, tea bags, & oatmeal.

I don't keep shoes under my desk.
I just wear my heels all day.

I keep Excedrin in my bag.

I have needle and thread, tootbruch and toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, feminine hygeine products, hand lotion, clorox disinifecting wipes, tyenol, oatmeal, shoe shining brush, plastic utensils and one pair of shoes under my desk.

I've been working here in the city for almost five years now and was at work during both 9/11 and the Blackout. Both times I was stuck and needed something I didn't have, so now I keep a backpack here at work that contains:

- flashlight
- subway and city map
- power bar
- toothbrush/toothpaste
- tampons/pads
- scrunchie
- chap stick
- spare change for pay phones
- cell phone charger (I keep mine at work)
- bandaids
- wetnaps
- hand lotion
- advil
- napkins
- plastic shopping bags
- pen & paper
- index card with all of my personal and emergency information (address, phone numbers, who to contact, etc.)
- contact case & solution
- socks & sneakers
- empty water bottle w/ cap
- list of coworkers phone numbers and addresses who live in the city

It might be a lot, but I feel better knowing that I'm pretty much covered in the event of another emergency. And since I've been through two already, now I feel like I'm ready for just about anything!
