For those who are giving or gave donations as favors?

For those who are giving or gave donations as favors?

I am thinking of doing this. At first I was not, but thought of a great place to make the donation, the NEW YORK POLICE & FIRE WIDOWS' & CHILDREN'S BENEFIT FUND.

Fh and I met while in the NYPD Police Academy, so I thought this would be very appropriate.

My questions are...
How much did you donate?

Did you make cards for your guests or does the place you're making the donation to provide them for you?

Has anyone here made donations to this specific organization?

Thanks!!

Sounds like a great charity.

I'm glad you asked this question. FH and I are going to donate to the Disabled American Veterans charity and this info would be helpful.

I think we're going to donate around $500. I think we'll probably have to have the scrolls made up ourselves...

We made a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation. I made up nice cards for the tables - about four per table so they could be on each side. My friends did the same fund you're thinking of and she made up her own cards as well so I don't know if they didn't provide cards for her or if she didn't like them.

I am doing research on line about the specific fund we want to donate to, and I found these...

·The Silver Shield Foundation assists education funding for children who have lost a parent in the line of duty of New York City police officers and firefighters; New York, New Jersey and Connecticut state troopers; and members of other law enforcement agencies within an approximate 50 mile radius of Manhattan.

·The New York City Police Foundation's 'Heroes Fund' helps to address the economic, physical and emotional challenges facing police personnel as well as the emergency needs of the NYPD.

Incase anyone else was interested.

I think we are going to give around $175 to the Lance Armstrong Foundation (we'll get the LIVESTRONG bracelets, 1 per guest) as well as $1 per guest also for the American Cancer Society. I know the Cancer Society DOES have scrolls, but I will probably just make some signs for the tables in our motiff. I think we just need to have the design/wording approved.

I typed out a 'letter' to our guests, I have the wording at home but it basically says something along these lines ...

To Our Family & Friends.

With much thought and consideration in leui of traditional wedding favors we have decided to make a donation in your honor to The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Foundation.

We feel the best gift is one in which helps other live longer and healthier lives.

This gift is made in memory of ...'

Love,
Lisa & Gregg
January 7, 2005

I printed it on 8x11 Cranes stationary and rolled them up and secured them wth two silver wedding bands about 1' from each end. In the center I hot-glued a small white sparkly snowflake (maybe about 3/4' big). I think they are going to look very pretty on the table.

I think the whole project cost about $40. We are donating about $500 and my FMIL's company matches the gift if we donate through her so the total gift will be $1,000.

We're donating to the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (my four year old nephew had retinoblastoma 3 years ago...thankfully he's doing great!). I'm not sure if they provide the cards but unless they're super nice we're probably going to print them out on fairly heavy card stock and place them on each place setting.

We're donating $500 as well. It will work out to about $2.25/guest.

i am thinking about donating to a charity as well and did a little research on it online.

for most charities, if you donate over a certain amount, they would provide you with cards for guests.

We donated to the Twin Towers Fund since we got married near the one year anniversary of Sept. 11. We made up index cards with a saying and attached American Flag pins to them. It was really nice to see our guests walking around with our pins on for the whole reception.

The amount of donation you decide on is up to you. It can be $1 for every guest or $5. We chose to donated what we had budgeted for favors to begin with.

I think this is a great idea! I would have liked to do this, but my husband wasn't wild about it. I would say donate what you think you would have spent on favors, if you had gotten them.

Yeah, I am not sure we'll be doing this. FH is NOT fond of the idea.

I most likely will donate also. I would like to do the American Cancer Society. My other idea was doing wine bottle but i think i'm leaning more towards the donation especially since it is in memory of two family members.

We made a $500 donation to St. Jude.

They provide you with a scroll or bookmark and they put your names and wedding date on there as well.

we are making smaller donations to 3 organizations: Breast Cancer Research, American Cancer Society, and St. Jude - we are not sure how much we plan on donating to each, since we are doing this in addition to favors
