do you need to make appointments, or can you just walk into the limo places??

I called and made an appointment but they said I could have just come down if I wanted. I only saw 1 place and booked.

some places want appointments...some don't...you might want to check to make sure they'll have the car you want available to see it when you want to go.

I did appointmens but i asked oevr the phone their packages/cars so i didnt waste a trip

That's what we did as well (although something happened and FH never went).
It's good to call ahead because a lot of times the limo you might want might not be there, it may be in use or being serviced/cleaned.
