For those who can read Spanish
OK, I already wrote in other post that I want to do a Spanish Reading of something (poem or short essay) to do my ceremony a sort of Bilingual since my parents are coming from abroad and they don’t speak English at all. I am planning in giving my answers of “I do” and “With this ring I marry my beloved” in Spanish, to do the Silver Coins exchange, and to ask to one of my Spanish speaking friends to read something. I have been surfing on line, since my poems book are not with me here, and I found this poem of Mario Benedetti that I always have loved, so far is the best choice I have. Please give me your opinions, and suggestions! Thanks!
Te quiero
Tus manos son mi caricia
mis acordes cotidianos
te quiero porque tus manos
trabajan por la justicia
si te quiero es porque sos
mi amor mi cómplice y todo
y en la calle codo a codo
somos mucho más que dos
tus ojos son mi conjuro
contra la mala jornada
te quiero por tu mirada
que mira y siembra futuro
tu boca que es tuya y mía
tu boca no se equivoca
te quiero porque tu boca
sabe gritar rebeldía
si te quiero es porque sos
mi amor mi cómplice y todo
y en la calle codo a codo
somos mucho más que dos
y por tu rostro sincero
y tu paso vagabundo
y tu llanto por el mundo
porque sos pueblo te quiero
y porque amor no es aureola
ni cándida moraleja
y porque somos pareja
que sabe que no está sola
te quiero en mi paraíso
es decir que en mi país
la gente vive feliz
aunque no tenga permiso
si te quiero es porque sos
mi amor mi cómplice y todo
y en la calle codo a codo
somos mucho más que dos.

This is beautiful. Are you having your ceremony in a church? I didn't read the other post yet if you mentioned it there.

Re: For those who can read Spanish
We are not having our ceremony at a church, I am catholic, but FI is 'nothing', so we are having a 'civil wedding' with Rev. Niki. She makes it so beautiful, and there are not any religious rituals if you don't want. FI is quite antiestablishment, so he does not want unity candle, etc. But we are doing the Silver Coin exchance that is customary in many Latin Cultures (including mine, my father has been saving those antique silver ones for our weddings since we were born) and our parents (but my father) won't be part of the bridal party as it is normal in Europe and South America (FI is from Europe). The ceremony will be at the Westbury Manor Garden (if weather is nice
) and it is a beautiful setting!!! Last night I went over the ceremony details with Rev. Niki ... and I have to tell you that I almost cried
!!! It is very emotional and pretty although it is not religious, if any of you is considering that option, she is great! Thanks for your help ladies!!!!

Re: For those who can read Spanish
OH WOW!! That poem is really beautiful!! We're trying to have a trilingual ceremony. My Fh is Greek Orthodox and I am Catholic. We are getting married in the GO church and have found a GO priest that will perform the main parts of the ceremony in spanish/english and greek. But the church that we picked may not let him marry us because he is not a priest from their church. So we don't know what's going to happen. I really want to have the Spanish part because my grandparents (who practically raised me) do not speak english very well and on top of that it's not in our religion, so they'll be extra lost!!
