Our DJ was in charge of it, he just called all the married couples to the floor gave all the men top hats and the ladies roses, then he played a great song. He started by eliminating us of course then he went up in years. It was so much fun.

My sister did the anniversary dance at her wedding last August. All of the married couples are asked to come to the dancefloor. You chosse the song that they are all dancing to. :) Then the Dj/band says 'whoever has been married for less than a day please step off the dance floor'. Then 'whoever has been married less than 6 months...a year....5years...and so on. The couple that has been married the longest are the last ones on the dancefloor. Then the bouquet is given to the couple. I thought it turned out really nice!! Hope this helped!

I wanted to give the man the garter & woman the bouquet. then the man would put the garter on the older womans leg. is this ok?

Jen that would be a nice/different spin on it, just hope that they are open enough to doing it in public. You know your guest best!!!

We had one - our DJ called all couples to the dance floor. Then he started eliminating them first - couples not married, married less then a year and so on. He seemed to pace it based on the number of couples left. When he got to 40 years he started calling year by year - the winners were married for 48 years!

We didn't do the garter and bouquet toss. It wasn't missed and my mother - who is big on tradition remarked how it was nice to not have to stop the dancing for these things.

Edited to say we gave the winners a bottle of champagne and champagne flutes.

DH removed the garter...standard wedding ritual way. Then all married couples were called to the dance floor (to Thru the Years). They started with less than 5 years, less than 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, etc. At less than 50 we still had 4 married couples. The crowd really got into it!! Then at 55 or less, we had three married couples. Finally the DJ announced 6000 years or less. Everyone laughed. We took a picture with all three remaining couples (boy did I look like a giant). Then, each announced how long they were married. The winning couple was 61 years! We presented them with the throwaway garter and bouquet. It was so adorable and special. The couple that won was so excited. I have to scan the picture that shows their excitement and post it tonight!

Ours went basically like Christine said-it was down to 2 couples for 49 years-my MOH's parents won for 49&1/2! I gave her my bouquet, Rich tried to give Tammy's Dad(who's like a Dad to me!)my garter(i snuck it off in private) but he turned brick red & stuffed it in Rich's pocket!!!! It was cute!!!

If the runner's up, my great aunt & uncle would have won, they would have done the garter. It really depends on who wins-I knew Tammy's Mom would never do it!

I wanted all couples...but our song was maybe not long enough...so dj only asked married...

otherwise it worked out perfectly...we had a couple married 58 years...the husband told us the first 50 are the hardest

at my sisters wedding the dj (different from mine) had sis and BIL go to the floor and siad that this was going to be the song they would listen to on their anniversary...I went up and told him how to do it...and a few songs later...it was done correctly...the couple that won theirs was married 50 years...and they are both thankful that it was done, b/c she passed away 2 months later..

We did it this way.
Hubby still took off the garter, then went right into the anniversary dance. DJ counted down the years and eliminated the couples. Then our longest married couple, my great aunt/uncle. I gave my toss bouquet to my aunt, and hubby gave garter to uncle. Then they brought out a chair, and aunt sat down, and my uncle put the garter on my aunt.
EVERYONE loved it including my aunt/uncle
