For those who had custom veils made...

Hi girls. I am having my veil custom made. I have to wait for my dress to come in before my seamstress chooses the ribbon color and the appropriate shade of silk tulle. Since I will not be bringing my dress home right away, how am I going to match the fabric to the ribbon and tulle while it is still in the store? Did anyone else have this problem? I asked them for a swatch a few months ago, but they could not promise that it would be the same color.

I would call my seamstress, but I at work and I di not have her number with me. Just wondering if anyone had the same issue. I guess you would need to know the exactly color to pick out your shoes as well, correct?

I am having my veil custon made, and I don't have my dress yet. I know the color is white, so that is what I told her to make it. I bought my shoes white as well.

Where is your seamstress getting the silk tulle from? Every swatch I got of it, the ivory color was very dark and yellow. However, the white on silk tulle is also a darker shade and not as brillant as nylon tulle. My dress is ivory lace on white so I just went with the white tulle to be safe. Are you using silk tulle from the US or UK? From what I understand, it may make a difference in the coloring. Also, in my research I found out that silk tulle can be dyed realitively easily (in fact with tea bags) and absorbs the color with no problem at all. Perhaps that is what your seamstress plans on doing? Also more importantly, what material is your dress? Satin white is fairly brillant and you might want to reconsider silk tulle completely. Just a few thoughts.... I have a huge file on this and reasearched it for months, so any more questions feel free to ask!
BTW the humidity in the air can also affect the coloring b/c it makes it limp together and the tulle actually shrinks, making it look darker.

My dress is not white, it is an ivory strapless satin gown (with an envelope top... which has a thin band of champagne colored fabric at the top). I tried on the exact veil that she is trying to recreate. It was silk tulle with a 1 inch satin ribbon edge... she called her friend who works at the shop where I bought my dress and they told her everything about it. The only thing that she doesn't know is the exact shade. Apparently, it has to be silk tulle to ensure that it lays properly. It is all one piece of fabric with one layer taht goes to the small of my back and the other layer is chapel. Since it is all one piece, it needs to create a ripple effect on the sides of my arms. Regular tulle is to stiff to do that ... or so I am told.

I would just buy my veil from the shop, but it is $1200.

I have a picture of it somewhere on here... I will find it and post it.

Thanks for your help :)
