? For those who have Been to GREECE...

We were looking to go to Greece for 12 days - 3 in Athens and the rest in Santorini. The travel agent we spoke to suggested that we would get bored if we spent that amount of time there. They suggested we split the time between Santorini and Mykonos.

In your experience, is this true? Would we get bored? Is there really no night life?

I can't imagine wanting to spend my HM on Mykonos - it seems too much like South Beach (which is great for friends, not really a HM IMO). So if you think the TA is right, could you recommend another island?

Thank you so much!!

There is definitely a nightlife in Santorini. It's just that there isn't such a wild party scene as in Myconos. I seriously doubt you will get bored, but it might be a good idea to do a little island hopping while you're there. Myconos can be a lot of fun (and romantic!), even without going party-crazy. Dh and I went to Santorini and Myconos for a week each back when we were dating and we had an amazing time, especially in Myconos. The main town is very quaint and the beaches are also a lot nicer than Santorini's IMO. If you have other questions, ask away!

Ahhh - thank you so much!

That's what I thought....that Santorini would be exciting enough and that we could take day trips to Mykonos and any other nearby islands.

Where in Santorini did you stay? We're looking into Katikies and Canaves.

I have also been considering Greece for HM. Are the beaches and water as nice as the carribean?

The islands are small so ten days is alot.. I went for two weeks and did 5 islands. Try Naxos and Paraos as well. they were quaint and quite beautiful. It is very simple to island hop!

Thanks! I was just given the suggestion to visit Paros for the day/night.

am - From what I've seen, Mykonos has the best beaches of the Greek islands...I guess the closest to the Caribbean. The island of Santorini while beautiful and very romantic (from what I've read and been told) doesn't have the nicest beaches.

I went to Greece about 7 years ago with some girlfriends. It was one of the best vacations of my life! (pre-meeting FH of course!)

We were in Athens for 3 days and then took a cruise of the Greek Islands. AT the time we loved Mykonos the best b/c it was a party place.. and yes, the beaches were awesome.

I remember thinking that Santorini would be perfect for a honeymoon someday!! It is SO romantic and the best sunset you'll ever see in your lifetime .. do NOT miss it, it is breathtaking

IMO you cannot go wrong with ANY of the Greek Island, they are all so beautiful. Its the trip of a lifetime! Heck I even loved Athens, and most people don't like it there... then again I'm really into history of it all and I loved climbing up into all the ruins and exploring .. it is an amazing country with wonderful people

Not surprising that I'm marrying a Greek guy, is it?

When I went to Greece a few years ago, I ran into a couple that was on their honeymoon. I saw them on Mykonos which was their last island that they were visiting. They said Santorini was beautiful but they were glad they came to Mykonos because the days are very relaxing but they could still party at night if they wanted. They said it was a nice balance to the rest of the trip.

I have been to Rhodes, Santorini and Mykonos. I think you will get bored with 9 days in Santorini and I think that Mykonos, while fun, is not a honeymoon place. I suggest spending some time in Rhodes, which had a lot to do and a nightlife, or Crete.

OK. We've talked it through. We're still sticking with Santorini for 8 nights (the 9th day we're flying back to Athens to either spend another night or just fly right back to NY - depends on the schedules). We plan on doing day trips to Mykonos and Paros and any other little island in between - IF we get a little ansty. Being that it's our HM, I think some quiet time would be nice.

Has anyone stayed in Katikies or Canaves - both in Oia - while on Santorini?

I stayed in Oia Mare while in Santorini. Oia is gorgeous! It's very romantic and picturesque with lots of restaurants and small bars. But it's definitely quieter than the main town where the clubs and party scene are. If you want to go to the main town at night and explore the island during the day, you will probably need to rent a car. Also, I'm not sure if the same holds true for your hotel as ours, but Oia is at a pretty high elevation and we had to climb about 200 steps to get to our hotel. After the first couple of times you get used to it, but in the beginning we were . The hotel was so pretty and very European - totally worth it. Our room was literally on the cliff of a mountain so that when you sat on the balcony or looked out your window you see the beach below and the sunset at night. I will have to scan some pics for you when I have a chance!

ETA - Make sure you eat at a restaurant in Oia called '1821' (hopefully it's still there!). You'll see it when you walk around at night. It is a bit pricey, but the food was AMAZING and it was so romantic. Our most memorable meal in Greece from that summer.
