For those who have honeymooned in French Polynesia....

Can I just skip Tahiti or spend just one night? I'd rather concentrate my time and my $$$ on Moorea and Bora Bora, will I be missing out? What does Tahiti offer that I can't experience in Bora Bora or Moorea?
Also, anyone go in early September? What was the weather like?
Thanks for the help.

We haven't been yet, but are planning on going for the first week of our HM. Re: skipping Tahiti, it really depends on your flight times. It seems to me that the flight times are designed to make you spend at least one night in Tahiti. We're arriving at around 3am, and just sticking around in the airport for a few hours before getting on a plane to Tahaa. One the way back, we do need to stay in Tahiti (tho' we are going to New Zealand, not back to the US, so maybe you could get lucky with the flights). The bright side is that, if you're looking to purchase black pearls, Tahiti is pretty good for it.

tahiti doesn't really have much to offer except the city of papeete. i think it's good to stay there for a day (you'll probably have to anyways). i'd recommend that you buy all your souvenieres/gifts/etc from papeete because it's the cheapest place to do so. it's also the best place for pearls. we had a few hours before our flight left from tahiti and we got the tour guide to give us a ride into papeete for a few hours.

also, the view from the lobby of our hotel in tahiti was amazing. i wouldn't have traded that view for anything. other than that, tahiti doesn't have much =)

here's the pic of the view .. not the best pic at all, but u had to be there to experience it.

We did not stay overnight in Tahiti. We spent a few hours there on our way back to the states. You don't need to spend a night there bc we didn't. I also heard there wasn't much to see there and if you do decide to stay in Tahiti, one night is more than enough.
