?? For those who know diamonds....

I went tanning today and while I was in the stand up booth I looked at my Ring and noticed that a few diamonds in my right hand ring were bright aqua. So I looked at my Ering and noticed that one of the side stones was also glowing but the rest were clear..

What the heck does that mean??? Im thinking 'is that a fake stone???

Im freaking out. DOes anyone know what that is???

Sorry I have no clue. Maybe you can take it to a jeweler.

I think I will take it to another jeweler to see what that means.
Thanks for responding

hi!

I know exactly what you are talking about it is called Fluorescents

One of my stones has this I have a 3 stone ering. I found out at my appraisal. it will glow under black light. I was told that with mine, it was fine, due to the color it glows and didnt affect the value of it. I was told that it is caused my the atoms scattering when it was forming.

to me its just another way to identify my ring

Oh that's actually a very cool thing and very unique for diamonds!! I had my diamond appraised and imy diamond does it too. It's called a weak blue fluorescence (well at least on my appraisal it is). I was told that it's a good thing since it makes the stone uniqe and easy to identify in the future since not all diamonds do that. He put it under a blacklight and showed me how it lights up blue. Don't think that it makes it more valuable, just something cool to show off to your friends when you go out clubbing.

yes it is flourescence.

its just flourescence... its still real! some stones have it, some dont. its not necessarily good or bad. it can actually make a stone w/ lower color look whiter.

some people prefer it, some dont, but it makes no big difference

Yes, it's the florescense. On your GIA certificate for your ering- it will say whether your diamond has florescense or not. Also, when I went to get my wedding band- we looked at my ering under a light so I could see everything (there's a small serial # on the diamond which FH thought was so cool) and I could see no florescense. It doesn't change the value- it either has it or it doesn't. That's hilarious how you saw it though!!!

PS- check out accuweather today.... Just made me very happy for next weekend

Re: ?? For those who know diamonds....

i heard that back in the day some people wanted diamonds with it and there was a little bit of a craze over it - i guess because it can make low color look whiter - but nowadays its not preferred - at least thats what the appraiser told us - my stone has none but FH read a lot about it when researching diamonds so of course he asked the woman and we got a history lesson you can google it and tons of things will come up
