Hi all..for anyone who suffers from Irritbale Bowel syndrome i found this website to be very helpful. I have been to numerous docs and have never been told alot of this information. Thought I wouls pass it on!
I have the books Eating for IBS and The First Year:IBS. They are great very informative books and I strongly recommend them. It seems like this website was started by the author of those books!

Thanks for the info. I am going to read up on this. I was recently diagnosed with this and trying to figure out what it really means.

I just got then book myself and i am excited to read more about it. I figured there had to be people on here also dealing with this. It si so frustrating at times and for a while i was just figuring i had to live with it etc but i decided to be more proactive and try to make changes for the better. Thanks for the link.
For those girls on here that are diagnosed as having IBS, what are your symptoms like - how long have you had it? I recently went to the doctor and that is what they are saying is my issue. I still have to go to a GI to confirm. I read similar sites and it seems like my symptons but I am not ready to change my diet and such...much of what I read seems so extreme for my case - although I know it will make a difference.

Re: For those who suffer from IBS
My reg doc has been saying I have IBS for a while. I finally decided to take action because I was tired of not feeling well. I went to a gastro and he gave me Bentyl. I feel so much better. I'm so mad at my doc for not telling me about this before.

Re: For those who suffer from IBS
if anyone is interested, there's a diet called the specific carbohydrate diet. it's more for crohn's and colitis and other illnesses but can work for ibd too. it's for anyone that would rather not take meds to help them. it might be alot to do for someone that has ibs (alot of food prep involved) and some of the stuff in the book that goes along with the diet is a bit 'out there' IMO, but I've incorporated some things into my diet and have done well. It eliminates alot of foods though. I don't follow it 100% because of that. (also because some of the things they advocate is either too expensive to keep buying or hard to find).
The big thing is that they recommend making your own yogurt. They say gastro and bowel problems are caused by the imbalance of good/bad bateria in the bowel and the yogurt (not commerical yogurt - this is fermented 24 hours and cooled for 8 more. It isnt sweetened so the taste is very tangy - more so if you use fat free milk, less so if you use 1/2 and 1/2 or cream). I have to say I've been doing that on and off - whenever I feel cruddy I make some and have 2 servings a day and it does help. It also is supposed to help clear the face up so I'll be making and eating more until (and after) the wedding. Every little bit helps.
