For those with Platnuim rings...

What do you do to keep them clean? I want to clean mine and I'm wondering if there's a special product or way of doing so?

I use the sonic cleaner which I bought when I went to get my ring appraised.

I use windex. I know this sounds crazy, but it works and it's ok to use on it, according to the GIA website. Windex works, b/c it has ammonia in it. I then use an air spray to dry it.

I got this 'recipe' from MS. Make a mixture of one part amonia, 6 parts water. Soak the ring for about 20 minutes. Then using a soft toothbrush, brush the ring gently. Rinse and dry. Works great!

sandy...I use the exact method...

my jeweler told me to throw out the cleaner...b/c it will cause build up

it comes out very sparkly

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. For those with the jewlery cleaner, is it any particular brand? I'll try the mixture this week and see how it goes!!

I do the windex thing too.
My jeweler told me that the $6 jewelry cleaner (that he sells to people) is just ammonia with food coloring.
Just make sure you dilute it. Especially if your ring is white gold. I do 5:1 for platinum.

Also, when you use a toothbrush, make sure you scrub UNDERNEATH the diamond, because that's where lotions and things tend to build up and get neglected. Makes a big difference in the sparkle.

Re: For those with Platnuim rings...

The jewerly store FH bought the ring from carries its own brand of cleaner (Shenoa & Co.) - dunno how much it is & seems like what they gave me will last for a looonnng time. they also said to brush good under the ring to get rid of buildup & rinse under cool water.

MOH keeps telling me to use toothpaste & a toothbrush, but I haven't tried that yet.

Nooo! Do NOT use tootpaste on your ring! I've heard horror stories about that and numerous warnings not to use toothpaste. Better safe than sorry!!
