For those with Sallie Mae Student Loans

Thought I would share what I learned while paying my bill this morning, For those with Sallie Mae Student Loans you can link your loan with a Upromise Savings Account. Upromise is a company that originally would help you pay for college by putting away a certain percentage of what you spent into an account that would later be used for a college loan. You have to register you credit cards and you grocery scanner cards with them and now they are allowing you to use the money towards paying off your active loan. Whatever you save (minimum of $25 to transfer) gets transfered quarterly into your loan. I thought that was pretty cool. A little can go a long way and you can also have your family and friends register to help with the savings.
So I figured I'd give it a try and see how it goes. You can get more infomation about it on sallie mae.

I'd like her to disappear but that's not happening. But now I'm going to make my FH sign up his cards to help with the savings. Everytime you use you credit cards a certain percent goes into the account. Better than nothing.

oh thanks for the info. I am not with Sallie Mae yet because I am still in my Masters.

But when I consolidate I might use them now that you can do that.

I have heard bad things about Sallie Mae though, do you like it so far? No problems>?

I have used them since I graduated from college, and I have had nooo problems. I pay them automatically each month (through my bank) and I think I got a 1/4 percent off the interest for doing that. And then when you make a certain amount of payments on time, they lower your interest again. They are the easiest biller I work with!

So if you sign up for them to automatically take money out they lower what you owe? How does that work?

I linked mine years ago. It takes a long time to get up to $25 though. I mean it's something, but when it's only .03 per purchase (and only on certain brands and in certain stores) so it takes awhile.
