For those with stomach problems.....

For those with stomach problems.....

I have been having mild chest pain for close to a month now. 2 different doctors ruled out heart attack by EKG (Thank God). They seem to think it is some sort of a gastric problem (ulcer, acid reflux). I am taking Prilosec now. My question is, did anyone experience a fullness ( a clogged up feeling) in one or both sides of the chest? That is my main symtom and seems to have subsided just a little with the med (Again thank God) I am still experiencing heartburn though. Just curious for those that suffer with this problem. It looks like I may have to join this club.

Thanks for any help!!

Re: For those with stomach problems.....

we have bad stomachs in our family.
I've taken the acid blockers on and off for about 10 years
my uncle gets it pretty bad and has on occassion felt like he was having a heart attack and went to emergency room- so it is a symptom...

BIL will get this occasionally... he called it a hietal hernia.... gas build up that puts almost a crushing pressure on the diaphragm and resembles symptoms of that of a heart attack.

Have you tried taking a Phasyme or Gas-X in addition to your antacid?

Edited to say that I hope you feel better soon!

Kristen, I am on Prilosec now. I guess I can take an additional antacid, but I am so afraid of side effects with both meds (even though I think it is okay). I am a major wimp like that!!! Thanks for your response!!

Kathleen I have no solid advice on this topic, but I do know that with the right combination of meds you should be on the road to recovery

Were you advised to alter your diet in addition to taking the medication? If I eat a lot of citrus fruits or somewhat spicy items I am doomed .

Quite by accident I was diagnosed with slight acid reflux about 2 years ago -- but an over-zealous doctor prescribed me prescription med and my condition was SO minor I truly did not need the prescription (I cannot even recall the name, maybe Nexium?) The medication made made my condition so much worse actually! So now just pop the occassional Zantac and try to watch for what triggers the heartburn. I did have it pretty bad last week to the point of my chest aching, but I realized it was bc I'd eaten too many oranges last week

I know you've been feeling like this for quite some time, so I really hope you are better soon!

The two OTC remedies that I mentioned are not antacids... of course check with doctor to see what he thinks, but I doubt this will bother you.

Also know that Prilosec is a drug that has to be in your system for approximately 2 weeks before you get the full benefits.

Re: For those with stomach problems.....

I had those symptoms when I had gall stones and needed my gall bladder removed. Did they check for that?? I had this years ago, felt like major chest pains, my stomach was killing me, felt like I had major gas. It was a lot of pain!!
