formula babies...

hi there- if you currently have your baby on formula- how much do you go thru in a week?

Julianne is 10-1/2 months old..and I find that we go thru a 14 oz container of powder formula a week!
is that a lot? she has about 4 6 oz bottles a day...sometimes less at daycare ( usually 2 bottles there..) and sometimes she has 2 bottles at night totaling 6 oz.

just want to see where everyone else is pacing
WE happedn to have a friend that was able to get us a few powder cans ...but at this rate, we are going to have to scour the 'net and papers for coupons!

...she is in the 10-20% percentile for weight..but the dr says he is happy with her progress..and that starting in Jan at her 1st bday that she can start having regular cows milk.
Does this mean no more formula at that time?

Lyndsey is 7 months old, and we go through about a can and a half a week! (Each can is 12.9 oz) I can't wait for her to start cow's milk...this stuff is EXPENSIVE!

Once Julianna starts drinking regular milk, you won't need formula anymore!

Luke now takes 3 6 oz bottles per day. At Julianne's age, he was still on 4 bottles so I'm sure we were going through the same amount then. We just moved over to cows milk and we havent mixed a bottle since.

When Luke was small, BF didnt work out and he was having trouble with the regular formulas, he was on stuff called Alimentum that cost $21.99 a can (regular can not the large one) - it was $50.00 a week!!! Formula is expensive but you are at the tail end. What kind of formula are you using, just in case I come across any coupons

Annalise goes through one can 25.7 oz. powder in just under 2 weeks. She is 11 months old and also has about 24oz. a day. Sounds like her and Julianne are on the same schedule. After her iron levels are checked at her 1yr. appt, I will start milk. She was found to be slightly anemic at 9 months, so I do not want her on milk unless she is getting enough iron. She switched from breastmilk to formula and started vitamins with iron just before we knew she was anemic, so I think these changes have helped. I have started putting an ounce of soy milk in her bottles once in a while. She has no problem tolerating it so far, so the transition to milk should be smooth.
I have a few friends with new babies. They have been generous enough to give me their sample cans and coupons(since they use other brands) and I give them all the coupons I don't use in return. I also lend them clothes and other items when I can. This helps cut down the cost a bit. You ahould also ask for formula at each dr. appt. They usually have at least a small can of powder.
When you start milk you may be advised to put half milk and half formula. Once she is on all milk you will not need any more formula. HTH!

Re: formula babies...

thanks gals- i was thinking that she would soon taper off..but didnt think aboiut the mixing of formula and reg milk...so it may still be another month or two after jan that she will need formula-ok.

she consumes ALL types of formula- no allergic reaction to any of them..so send me any $1.00 or more coupons...will trade if I have anything you need

too bad i forgot to ask the dr during our lasxt visit for formula- next appt is not until JAN!

thanks gals- keep the feedback coming!!

If you sign up online at the formula companies you can get tons of FREE stuff. I also signed up my friend, whose children are 11 and 15 so she gets free formula and coupons for me too
And sign-up using your maiden name and husband's name so you can also get double.
Carnation sent me 3 sets of $11.00 off coupons, and $1.00 coupons. Emfail and Similac both sent me free full size cans of formula.
I am hoping to BF but I figured it was good to get it in the house, just in case.

Ryan is only 6 months and we use the ready to feed (which is more expensive to begin with) and he goes through 4 - 5 bottles a day around 28 - 32 oz. a day.
