FORTUNOFF

FORTUNOFF

I know this isn't new to anyone, but Channel 7 just had a story about how gift cards are no longer being accepted at Fortunoffs.

They showed a bride who had almost $1700 worth of cards they were refusing to honor.

My sister's shower is next month and my mom has already gotten several calls from people who said they got her gifts from there and are now worried she will not be able to return them.

I think it is so sad that this store, which has been a staple for Long Island Weddings for the past several decades is now leaving such a bad taste in people's mouths. The least they could have done was go out of business with honesty and dignity.

I know.. SO SAD

I went there last night with a $300 store credit (I returned a double engagement present) and they basically told me.. TOO BAD!

They are not accepting ANYTHING except CASH/Credit Card. All gift cards/store credits are null and void! I guess when a company claims bankruptcy they aren't responsible anymore. One employee told me that I could file my credit with an attorney (OK how much will that cost) and that when they are all done with Fortunoffs legal stuff you MIGHT be considered for a reimbursement check... I'm SOOOOOO lazy ... while $300 is a lot, this just sounds like a lot of WORK!!!

Re: FORTUNOFF

just an FYI: Fortunoff is owned by an equity company. It is not the family run business that it used to be. It was purchased along with Lord & Taylor last year (i think) mostly because of the valuable 5th avenue real estate that those 2 stores occupied. The equity company did not have enough funds to do what they wanted to do with the stores and are trying to sell Fortunoff. We can all hope that someone will save the day and purchase the store.. but being that it's big bulk is jewelry and furniture (2 of the worst retail items) not sure if someone will want the stores.

That said, I cannot believe that they are refusing to honor Gift Cards.. which is money that is already in their pockets and the holder received nothing in exchange! That is dishonerable. I think I'd grab some merchandise (something diamond) and throw the gift cards down and run!!

OMG that's sooo funny. Last night I was like 'Okay what can I grab for $300' OBVIOUSLY I would NEVER do that but what the hell.. they just ripped me off three hundred bucks! For some reason I don't care THAT much. Under the circumstances, I'm just happy that me and FH still have jobs! I know that's not the case for everyone
