Found my Dress!! ( But....) Please Help!!!

The dress I fell in love with is only $700, but when I went to give the salon my down payment for them to order it, the price was a lot higher! My dress is a 2 piece w/ a lot of detailing along the bottom. The woman said that since I needed 3 inches off the bottom of the dress, that I would have to have it specially made. OK, no problem, except that she is charging me $175 just for the hem, $50 for shipping and handling, and $90 in tax. If I need any other alts, she capped me a t $225!! I feel like I am getting ripped off. The $700 dress is quickly turning into the $2,000 dollar dress once all is said and done, accesories and all!!! Please Help, I need you opinions!!!

NO - that doesn't sound right - is it sold elsewhere?

My dress has intricate lace, and crystals along the hem - and with no real waist they do something called a Hollow hem measurement - which they measure me so that the dress comes in the right length so that no hemming is needed.

If it is a two piece though they should be able to take it up at the waist

That's exactly what it was a hollow to hem. I thought the pricing sounded a little ridiculous!!!

that sounds sketchy...I'd order the dress from somewhere else (i.e.netbride) and then have an independent seamstress do the alterations

I would look to see about ordering your dress elsewhere.

I'd look for another shop or call the dress maker and ask them if this is normal practice for the dress you are interested in. My dress is 'custom made' to my height because its good a sheer layer on top with bead and thread work that the shop can't alter, and it only cost $100. I believe it was called a 'hallowed hem'

it sounds like they are trying to rack up the charges on you! Most designers will make the skirt in two lengths. you can check with them and see what size chart you fall into. I got alteration cap of 125.00 because I told them that one of their competitors had given me a much lower price.( it was true) Good luck, and don't be afraid to open your mouth!! Where was that by the way??

Call Burtons' Bridal - i got my dress there a lot cheaper, and they were great to work with.

THERE IS NO CHARGE for a HOLLOW TO HEM measurement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looked at a couple of dresses that had that and NONE wanted to charge me for it - When they do a standard measurement they should take that measurement - so it will be made the proper length - THERE IS NO EXTRA charge for that.

I would really question if they say that

I would definately look elsewhere for this dress. That does not sound right.

A 2 piece dress with beadwork only at the bottom would be taken up from the waist, and wouldn't be a big deal to do, either. I'd look elsewhere for your gown!

Run for the hills. First of all why are you paying a shipping fee. Your cap on alterations should be about a $150.

Go somewhere else. What area are you in? Maybe someone can recommend another Bridal shop that is honest

When I got my dress I needed a hollow to hem measurement and they did charge for it BUT, they took that amount off the alteration cape. For example ( I dont know the exact figures) the hem measurement was 150, alteration cap was 250, now the alteration cap is only 100.

Alot of the places I went to the alterations cap was between 150-250 for brides. Mine is on the higher end but I know for a fact that the seamstresses are great so I have NO probelm paying that!

Also, alot of the alteration caps DO NOT Include the bustle! Just so you know!
