Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I am also biased towards the FOx Hollow, but I looked at both. THey were around the same price.
THe thing I liked about the Riviera is its one wedding at a time, that is important to some people. THe Decor was not to my taste really, but its all personal preference. Its a little more secluded, not off a main road, so that may have some appeal to it.
In My opinion, when I was looking, the Fox Hollow offered more for the money, even though it has more than one wedding at a time.
If your friend likes being on the water though, the Riviera has a benefit because it is right off the water and has a beautiful view. I do not know anything about the food there, since I have never been to anything at that facility.
I have been to weddings at the fox hollow, and both times loved the food

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I have never been to Fox Hollow although it looks amazing from pictures! I really wanted to look there for my own wedding, but fell in love with Floral Terrace first..
That being said, my brother had his wedding at the Riviera and it was amazing! The food was excellent , the bridal attendant was extremely helpful and the fireplaces, water and snow created such a romantic atmosphere....Riviera has a very rustic feel to it, so if that is your style then I would say the Riviera is perfect.
I am sure no matter where you go, you won't go wrong!

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
i have never attended weddings but have heard great things about fox hollow (i ended up booking them)... w/ the riviera, the review i got from someone who went to a wedding there was that it was good but only if you are going to have a small wedding as the space was rather tight. GL to your friend!

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
ok so im going to say fox holow since im getting married there but i did go to wedding at the riviera and it was beautiful but my one point of what i didnt like was how the dance floor was on one side and all the tables on the other..if u were sitting at a table in the back there were huge poles in the way and u could not see the dance floor..just my opinion

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
Ok I have only been to Fox Hollow but I am seeing the Riviera this Sunday.
Fox Hollow is realyl beautiful & I hear from the girls on here the food & service are very good. But they can have a few weddings going on at once (not a huge deciding factor). They were giving a good price for the night I was looking for.
The Riviera I will see Sunday. But I have read some good reviews of this place as well and I like the fact it's exclusive to one weddings at time. I also love the idea it;s water front & off the main roads.
I will try to post more about Riviera after my visit Sunday
I also have another walk-through at Fox Hollow this Friday night. So it will be a good recent comparison since the last time I was there was in July.

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
the food at the riviera was good but I heard they are looking into doing renevations soon...which makes sense because when I was looking there about a month ago the place looked a little run down with paint pealing and apolstry shreading and garbage (ie bottle caps and gum) in the phone booths and bridal suite. so make sure when your friend goes there she looks at everything VERY carefully. I originally wanted my reception there because i had been to a wedding there and loved it but after this visit I was really disapointed!!

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I looked into both-
I thought the Riveria was kinda small. If you're having a small wedding though thats not a problem. I wasnt too fond of the staff (one lady was really rude). I also thought the price was kinda high.
Fox Hollow was ok. It was anything special to me. But the price was great and they gave you a decent amount.

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I loved the Riviera until I went for my tasting. The food was NOT good. I have read some raves on this site about their food, so perhaps it was my personal taste. However, our tasting was during an actual wedding, so what we tasted was what they were serving the guests. AND we went back the next weekend to try again. FM me for details. I don't want to offend anyone. AGAIN, maybe it was just my taste. Others seem to really enjoy the food there.
Also, the owner was not nice. He made some very nasty comments under his breath, which BLEW ME AWAY when I found out he was the owner. Google The Riviera, Massapequa. There is a story on Complaints.com that is chilling.
On the plus side, I love the place- it is so quaint and nice. The setting is unbelievable- the gazebo for the wedding, the high ceilings, the bar, I loved it. It is definitely best for a smaller wedding. When I saw it for the first time, I said to my MOH that this is where I would be getting married. Sadly, I had to book elsewhere.
REMEMBER, THIS WAS JUST MY EXPERIENCE, AND OTHERS LOVED IT AND RAVED ABOUT IT. I strongly advise you to go to your own tasting.
Good luck!!

I would never book without tasting their food! I'm going to look up that story on complaints.com
I know places can have an off night.. but when you find too many off nights there is something terribly wrong.

It's the same guy.
It's not the first story about him that I've heard. There was one a few months ago on LIW that was deleted.
And again, I have to reiterate, I absolutely loved the place. I think it's beautiful. And it's possible you will really love the food. I just put a lot of time into deciding NOT to book there, and thought you might benefit from my experience. I still look at the pictures I took there when I checked it out, and want to cry.
No matter what you do, I hope it works out wonderfully!!

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I loved the Riviera and was on the fence between it and the Thatched Cottage, which I eventually picked. I thought the outside of the Riviera was absolutely stunning, and I had a tasting and loved the food. We liked our place a little better, but really loved the Riviera. I thought they had great prices too. I've never been to Fox Hollow, just because I wanted a one-wedding-at-a-time place, but from the pics I've seen on here, its beautiful too.

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I love The Riviera. Fox Hollow was one of the places that I looked at but, hands down for us was The Riviera. Their food is great, one wedding at a time, they are giving us sooo much, its on the water...so much more. Fox Hollow's food is great as well but, more then one wedding at a time and I wasnt fond of the rooms and the one I liked I felt like it wouldnt hold everyone and the dance floor was small. The Riviera worked with us and Fox hollow did not, that was another thing for us.

Re: Fox hollow vs the Riviera
I know this may sound like a weird comment but when I was at a wedding at the Riviera, I felt the staff wasn't very professional. The bartenders were doing shots with underage guests so it made it difficult to get their attention to get a drink and they were drunk by the end of the night. Also, our friends had gotten the chocolate fountain and at one point we were waiting in line behind three waitresses to get some dessert. This was while the wedding was still going on! We had fun but I know if this was my wedding and I was paying all those service charges, I'd want the people serving not enjoying my desserts while my guests waited behind them!
