Frantic over Flowers...Please help!! (long)

I just met with my florist last night to try and decide on my bouquet and my bridesmaids bouquets....and she was no help at all. I was under the impression that she would be putting different flowers together to show me examples. Instead she showed be pictures of individual flowers and then expected me to imagine the bouquests in my head. She made very little suggestions and completely annoyed me. What happened when you guys met with your florists over bouquets? Also, I really had my heart set on having the stems exposed in the bouquet and just tied together with a ribbon or satin and she was completely against it. Are any of you thinking of doing that. Should i cancel and look else where less that 5 months before the wedding or am I just being worried for nothing?

who's your florist?

when we were discussing bouquets, my florist using a combo of flower pictures and actual flowers to give me an idea of what they'd look like. He even ordered the particular flowers so I could see them all together a few months before (he didn't make a sample bouquet - just held a few stems together against the dress).

Plenty of people leave the stems exposed. I wrapped my bouquets in ribbon, without anything exposed because I thought it looked neater. I didn't want green against my dress and just did the BMs to match.

I'm sure it'll be fine. But if you're going to stress about it for the next 5 months, maybe you should go somewhere else. Perhaps you can meet with her again before you decide anything.

when i met with our florist, she put together my bouquet right in front of me. we mixed and matched different flowers until we found something i absolutely loved (and looked good next to my skin tone and next to a white dress). my florist said stems exposed or not was up to me - i was just fearful of something leaking on the dress, so my BM's stems are exposed (they're in a dark color) and mine are tied.

if you're really uncomfortable with your vendor, you may want to look elsewhere. why be unnecessarily stressed out for the next 5 months?

good luck!!!

i think 5 months is plenty of time to find a different florist if you were that uncomfortable. it won't be any fun to deal with someone who's not giving you the level of service you want and need.

as far as stems exposed i want the same thing for my bm's. i don't think there's anything wrong with it :)

My florist also did the picture thing. He explained the pros and cons of each flower made suggestions etc. Then on Valentine's Day my FH instead of ordering roses went there and ordered my bouquet in a vase. So I got to see it. Also my contract calls for a mock centerpiece for me to take home. I get this about 1 month before the wedding and I am supposed to then discuss with them what I like and don't etc.

As far as the stems, they said that they could do it several ways but that he prefers to do 3/4 covered. His reason was (and it sounded good) as the day goes on and the flowers change (open more wilt or whatever) if they are not tied tightly they can start to seperate from each other and their positions will change and that the bouquet will not look the same.

Hope this helps.

I visited 2 florists and the it sounds like you described the first florist I went to. She showed some pictures and wrote down the names of flowers that would be a part of my bo-k, but I couldn't really picture it. The second florist actually created the bo-k right in front of me! She was so awesome! Needless to say, we booked them (milleridge Florist).

If you feel very nervous, maybe you should look into other florists. I booked mine about 5 months before the wedding and had no trouble finding one available on my date. Also, the stems were exposed on the bo-k she made for me. Good luck!

If you feel uncomfortable you should look around and try to find someone you're more comfortable with. We just booked our florist 2 weekends ago for our wedding in May, so I'm sure you can find one. I can tell you we went with Flower Michele and they totally guided us in which flowers to choose and which colors to go with. I would assume that most florists should be able to help you make your decision.

If you are really uncomfortable, you should look for another florist. It's definitely not too late. Good luck!
