I'm really just mad at myself. If any of you remember.... FH lost his job and then so did I. So when I got a phone call about a sweepstakes to win $25,000 all I could think about was our hard times and that we might finally get something good. NOT! Though I have no confirmation, as soon as I hung up the phone I felt that I answered too many questions about my personal information and it felt sketchy. It didn't set off any red flags because they weren't asking me to give any information, just to confirm information they already had. For all I know I could get a call in a few days saying I won....but I think whats more likely is a headache over some unauthorized charges or something. I've already called the credit card companies to alert them of the incident.
So a warning to my fellow brides who's eyes might glass over at the thought of free money - it's probably a scam! I'll keep you posted...especially if I win

Re: Fraud warning!
Weird. Where did they say they got your information from? Did they have your credit card #'s?? That would freak me out!

Don't worry too hard about it. You called the card companies so at least they have a heads up...

Re: Fraud warning!
Similar thing happen to FH and I. Only it was a Magazine company telling us we already had subscription and they were offering us a way to save money. They mentioned Mags that we do get in the mail and because FMIL does send me magazine subscriptions as gifts from time to time we were confused as to which came from where, Anywho, stupidly we verified all of FH's info including his CC number and bam we had a New subscription to a company we never subscribed with in the first place. They were making so suring that this was something we already were subscribed to and we weren't. Luckily we felt weary about as soon as he got off of the phone with them and we contact the CC company. We also reasearched through Google how to contact the company themselves since they so conveniently called from a colorado number that could receive calls. We got intouch with the company telling them that they confused and tricked us and demand the money be refunded and also sent a written letter telling them not to send us anything from the company because we did not order anything. So be careful people because these companies will have you confused on the phone and have believing you really previously signed up for things that you didn't.

Re: Fraud warning!
This is why if I don't recognize the number, I don't pick up the phone. I have had this 1-800 number call my cell phone SIX TIMES TODAY ALONE! I think they've called me a total of 20-25 times in the past week. Googled the number, found out that it was 'credit card services' (no company name attached, either) and that they'd ask for a Social Security number. The next time they call, I am going to threaten to report and sue them for pulling my number off of the do-not-call list.
I spend $6 or $7 a month for identity theft protection. It does NOT prevent ID theft. But what it DOES do is help you in case you ID is stolen. THEY will do ALL the work to help clear anything up. I purchased it from listening to Dave Ramsey.
This is NOT crap insurance. This is NOT the junk that the guy who gives you his SSN on TV.
Even if its for a few months I IMPLORE you to get the policy. If you think you gave out too much information, you can protect yourself for $6 a month.
Again I have had this insurance for about a year now. Thank goodness I have had no reason to use it, but im happy I have it. It can take months and hundreds of hours to fix problems. Im happy to know that if something does happen I have someone in my corner to help me.

You should also sign up with Equifax or one of the other credit agencies so that you can monitor your credit to be sure your identity hasn't been stolen. They can put an alert on your account so that you will be contacted if someone tries to use your identity to open new accounts, etc.
