My loverly fh thinks we can start looking at houses and im freaking out. Did anyone else freak out about expenses and making payments and thinking you cannot afford anything!
He is going to the mortgage broker today with all of our info SO we can start looking. We are also paying for half of our wedding too!!!
he also has no concept of a starter house he thinks theres no point in that because you have to put money into it anyway to fix it up.....
so sorry just venting
we got approved for 500,000$ ru kidding me!!!! they said we can afford it but somehow i dont think sooo. so great they tell my fh this and now we are looking at housed that are 450+ i am trying to bring him down. we looked at some houses this weekend some in hicksville and some in freeport. most of them where crap and one in hicksville had potential. i told him that if he wanted to go higher with the price that it had to be a mother/daughter so we could rent part of the house out.....

let him get the ball rolling - then once you get out there with numbers in mind and see what there is to offer, I'm sure he'll come back down to reality! It's certainly intimidating, but there's no harm in educating yourselves, even if right now isn't the ideal time.

My FH and yours should get a house together, cause FH has no idea of what a starter home is either! We are looking out east so we have more options, but whenever I suggest a smaller or older home (or townhouse), he gives me this ewww look. He says we will save on maintenance by getting a newer home (but the one he wants needs landscaping, fencing), but I am scared to death of those mortgage payments and TAXES!!!
I just dont want to have to kill ourselves working a billion jobs to pay for the house - what is the point of having a great house if you can't ever enjoy it?

Oh yes.....and I am still freeking out about the $ and we are closing in 12 days, and wedding in 4 months!
Good Luck....Just see what you can afford and don't spread yourselves too thin.

Yes! We're in contract, and my FI thinks I'm freaking out and I'm just convinced we're going to be eating mac and cheese forever...and he's talking about alarming the house, redoing the kitchen...I just laugh at him and ask when we won the lotto, and why I was the last to know!

we just started looking at houses 2 weeks ago, and this past friday we were already signing an offer!! Once we got all the figures from the mortgage broker, i'm thinking- you've got to be kidding me! What are we doing, we cant afford this! We ended up getting outbidded ,which i guess was a blessing in disguise cuz there is no way we could've afforded it..not with all the other bills to pay every month. Its really scary, and its even scarier to think that you could get so in debt that you might lose the house that you worked so hard to get!
I told my DH that we have to focus on either a smaller home (not like the one we bid on was big, but we 'thought' it was affordable) or we have to get a house that you can rent part of it out. I think that mortgage companies approve you for more than what you can afford.. this *****.
